Talk about both companies being over a barrel. I'm pretty sure Ford needs navistar as much as Navistar needs Ford. Navistar does pretty well in the heavy truck market, but the possibility of loosing a contract as large as Ford's with nobody waiting in the wings for their engines can not be good for them. Of course Ford would be up the creek without a paddle at this point, not having a diesel engine replacement for the Super Duty. I'm sure that even though Ford does use Cummins engines in their heavy trucks, contractual obligations between Cummins and Dodge probably prohibits sales to any other manufacturer for the lighter duty. Maybe they could get Cat to build something for them.

Ford offers a CAT in their F650 line... so there is a relationship there...
It was reported in Diesel Power Magazine that CAT is not set-up to handle the quantity of motors Ford needs and sells. This is just typical "husband and wife" doing business fighting. Neither side is going to back down and just give in... but neither side can afford to loose the other.... this is just business... and big business at that.
I am sure that written into their supply agreement is some sort of reimbursement for warrenty work and I am sure that just like Ford makes all of us "jump through hoops to get our work down under warrenty"... Navistar is making Ford justify and prove their claims as well????
Well ford owns cummins. They bought them in either 99 or 00 but I guess the contract with dodge stops them from using them in the superduty. They had been talking about using them here very soon as soon as there alowed to.
I'm sorry your right cummins bought back a pile of stock from them in 97. Somewhere around 1.3. It was not to long ago that a friend who still works for ford said it was in the works to switch over to cummins.
