428 flywheel?

428 flywheel?

Hi just recently bought a 67 428 that was originaly in a 67 tbird, its in a 1970 f600 now, My questions are will a 352 truck 3 speed bellhousing bolt to a toploader four speed, and will i have to change the flywheel that was used in the f600?

You'll need a 428 flywheel, preferably one balanced to the engine. Was the t-bird an auto or stick?

Tbirds were autos only from probably '61 on, afaik.

The 352 bell may be a different depth than you need for the toploader.

The toploader, is that the performance trans or the '80s OD unit?

Measure the input shaft length of the 3 speed vs. the toploader.

Since it was transplanted into an F600, anything could have been done, and you won't know what parts you have until you take it apart.

I hope you checked at least the stroke on that motor also.....

the toploader is a close ratio out of a 64 galaxie, yes i measured the stroke and is 4" has c6me on pass side of block and 22 DIF on drivers side has a bunch of holes on back side of flywheel where balancing was done

OK good, just check the depth of the bell--truck bells are 1/4" deeper, not sure on your 352 bell. The pattern should be the same, the Ford "butterfly" pattern.

Info on the trans and bell numbers here fwiw.

thanks for the info thats a good site! the front of the oil pan is almost the same depth as the rear is that an FT pan?
