Is there some other way to open the rear glass on the Explorer other than the remote? I just got it and haven't had a whole lot of time to fool with it and never thought about it until today. Is there a button in the glove bow perhaps?
Like Steina said, the button is under the ledge below the glass approximately 1/2 the distance from center to right. Feel up underneath and you'll find a soft rubber bump. That is the button. Press the button up and it activates the electrical release for the glass.
That button will only work in my truck, if you hit the remote (2) times or the door unlock switch on the driver side.
That's normal, cause otherwise your doors are locked, and it won't open a locked door just like the door handle won't open a locked door. Remember that unless you've disabled it the '03's have a "feature" that locks the doors when you start moving.
As far as I know, there's only two ways to open the rear glass hatch, one is by the remote and the other is using the keypad on the driver side door.
so after entering your unlock code there is a button you can press to pop the window? or are you talking about pressing the "3/4" button to unlock all the doors so that you can then pop the glass from the tailgate button?
I'm starting to think that maybe this wasn't such a stupid question. There is a button on the right side of the handle to pop the hatch that pop the rear window open. It doesn't really feel like a button but just feel for a rubbery bump and that will be it.
Also, remember that the whole frame of the rear glass door can be easily twisted. And the exterior plastic panel (just below the glass) that is painted with the color of the body, can easily crack. Mine did after I close the whole frame a bit hard. I guess, the smartest way to close this rear glass door is buy pushing it with a snap (to close) when put it down just touching the lock. I learned this later, and it's too late for me. Just to share with all of you guys.
