Anyone got any experience (know anything) about either MasterCraft (Cooper?) "GlacierGrip II, or Dayton (BridgeStone/Firestone) "WinterForce" tires?? I'm on a mighty mean budget these days (what's new???). Oh, and BTW, the Firestone brand/name doesn't worry me - hell, their QC people are probably all over their stuff these days - besides, the company, while producing a couple of bad products over the last 25/30 years, has made some legendary stuff too. Was also looking at some "Viking SnowTech" (Continental/General) rubber, but couldn't find it in a size for my vehicle.

I had a pair of daytons once, tires are tires and as long as they take you down the road that's a good start.
However, they are the only connection your truck has to the road (hopefully.) Buying a set of tire just because they were the cheapest is not the best way to choose. I like to find tires by how well they hold to the road, if they are stick you will be able to stop. Tire rack has some reviews of different tires, it's worth a look.
I really like the tirerack surveys. They show you actual customer reviews over millions of miles. Worth taking a look.
I'm in the process of buying new tires as well. The ones I've picked for my truck, after some quality time on the tirerack web site, were the BF goodrich commercials. Since mine is 2wd I am planning on the T/A AS in front and T/A Traction in the rear.
Hey thx men - hey `77-250, you might want to take a look at a site called: tires-easy.com - they don't have as nice of a site as TireRack, but the prices are a bit better (though shipping seems to be a bit more, it still comes out cheaper to go with them if they have the tire you want). Good Luck, and thx again to you both!
I'm only using tirerack for the reviews. I think I'll probably get the tires from Costco. I'll shop around a little, but I'm impressed with the prices i found on the costco website.
I live in Minnesota where there is a sport called ice racing. Its is the mixing of Nascar an icy lake, and a litte demo derby. Everybody there swears by Winterforce tires. including myself. They have awesome traction if thats what you're looking for. I run those every year and they never dissapoint me. They actually work better than Blizzaks. Cooper Glacier grip 2's are decent too. The one thing to remember about Winterforce tires are that they are directional.
Ha-ha - "Ice-Racing" ... sounds like "Sideways-racin'" to me - A LOT OF FUN!
Anyway, I believe I am going to get a set of the WinterForce for, well, winter (!) - but I ended up with a Wally*World (UNIROYAL) tire (long story), anyway, I think UNIROYAL is owned by Michelin (as is BFG I believe), and I've NEVER (not in 31 years) been dissapointed with a Michelin - I wish I could say that about some other brands - but I cannot. This 'Uni'- is a "Liberator A/T" - it's not very aggressive (I don't think ... not at all really [?]), and I'm actually not exactly "thrilled" with the tread pattern - but then, I have been wrong (once) before (haha) - I do quite a bit of hi-way/city/suburb time (and I've got a 4x4 anyway), so, I wanted some decent wear (mileage) and MPG's (and 'comfort' - noise/feel is always nice). It's also the 235/75x15 -"XL" (eXtra Load) which I do like ("just in case"). Not quite sure how they make it that way - it has the same construction as others of it's type (actually has TWO poly-cords in the sidewall (with 2-steel/2-poly & 1 nylon in the tread/patch section) - where the same tire in a "C" -Load Range only had one in the sidewall[??]). I suppose they use a different (maybe? - slightly??) rubber compound or chemical in it - though I did notice the "C" was marked as "6-Ply" - as opposed to - I'm not sure what (2/4 -ply?). If anyone's got any experience with, or knows anything about, this "Liberator A/T" (or UniRoyal) please share it (!) - I 'think' Wal*Mart used to sell this tire - w/o the Uniroyal lettering on the sidewall - as a "Generic", "house" or "off-brand" tire - [?] - they sell this tire @ 50K-miles warranty ("$63.66/per - online price) ...
Hey 95BogginBronc - they usin' studs in them thangs, ain't they (on ice)??

There is a studded class, those boys haul ***. I run what is referred to as hard tire class. I run Winterforces and sip the **** out of them. never lose traction. I run anywhere from 40-65mph.
Hey man, thx for the clarification - both classes sound like a BLAST!!!
Hey - do you, or does anybody you know, run those WinterForces like "year-round" (much hi-way mileage)?? Wonderin' what type of mileage (wear/tear) they're good for?? How about "off-road" - in the mud/sand, etc.??
Thx again,
Glenn ...

i don't know how Winterforces hold up as far as mileage cuz in ice racing we don't worry about tread mileage. They have excellent traction on snow, mud, ice. Even when they are not sipped they do well. I do not know of any pics of my club. You can google ice racing and get pics from the "big Boys" like in Canada and New York. alot of dirt track racers are also ice racers and visa versa. Its a blast I just wish some guys would stop derbying and start racing. Some guys just have to play dirty i guess. the races are in Siren, WI at Jeds laker Lounge by Clam Lake if anyone wants to come by. We hold them every Sunday as long as the ice holds out.
