Ok, here is an interesting question. I was looking at the firing order in a truck I purchased sometime back (grey truck in my gallery) and noticed that the distributor was not set as mentioned here by some and on other literature I read. Will it actually make a difference if the rotor is pointing in a different direction other than the 1 oclock for the #1 cylinder? The truck currently has it pointing at the 11 oclock and timing has been set to I forgot what since I did it about 6 months ago. I think I set it to 12o. Anyway, I did not realize that till recently. I have not put it back to the 1 oclock position since I've been busy with another vehicle (red truck in gallery) at the time to check for perfomance differences. Just thought I'd ask. The trcuk in question has a 351m with an rv cam, aluminum intake, 600 cfm edelbrock, billet msd distributor, and a 6a msd ignition box.
The rotor doesn't have to point a certain place. It just has to point at the plug wire going to the #1 cyl.I've seen engines that guys had the distributor installed off a tooth or two and just moved plug wires around. Some time the oil pump shaft wants to come out with the dist. so instead of risking dropping it in the engine, they just move wires.
