Hello, I usually hang out on the F150 forum cause I have never had a problem with our Ranger, until now.
I have a 94 Ranger 4.0 automatic. 52k miles and am orig owner. I pull into the driveway yesterday and see coolent pouring out under the truck. Only drove 1 mile, didn't overheat. Today I investigate and it looks like its coming from under the front of the intake manifold and pouring behind the a/c and steering pump to the ground. Its not the thermo housing and it pours out gravity flow about as fast as I can put it in.
Any thoughts on this would sure be appreciated.
Greg
I'm not sure where the coolant comes, but you can find it very easy performing a Cold Start Inspection.
1º Make sure normal coolant level is at radiator and expansion tank
2º Wash troughly the engine
3º Let it cold to ambient temperature.
4º Start engine and take a very close look, flashlight in hand, during the initial 10 minutes
This will show you very clear, where the coolant leak(s) come
That sounds like a pretty good-sized leak, should be easy enough to locate. Possibly a bad hose, I'd look at the radiator top hose where it connects to the thermostat housing and the heater hoses.
I have checked as closely as possible, to the point of removing the a/c - p/s bracket and pulling it aside. No hoses are leaking, not the wp, or thermostat housing. Its pouring out like a freeze plug popped on top of the driver side cyl head or the front of the intake manifold.
You said it comes out about as fast as you can put it in...so you've tried pouring water in while closely watching for the leak? Wipe everything down with an old towel and look for new moisture coming out. I don't know what else to tell you at this point, this is one of those things that's a bit tough to diagnose without actually laying hands on the vehicle. Take pics and post them perhaps...

keep in mind the clamps on the hoses. factory clamps are held INTO the hoses with staples. got a 94 myself and just replaced the upper hose due to a puncture from the damn staple.-...unbeleiveable
The leak ended up being the intake mainfold gasket failed at the water jacket seal causing coolant to pour out down the driver side of the block.
Kind of disipointed this happened to a 50k motor that has been well maintained and never overheated. Oh well, back to work.
Thanks for all the suggestions. Greg
