last night i used my truck to jump start some one, dumb question to ask, but i did it like if i had one battery, hooked up the cables to the two posts on one of my batteries, and the other end to the dead cars battery, and had them crank there car over. it started just fine. then i disconnected, and about 5 minuts later my truck just turns off? the hood was still open on my truck, and it was just idling there. im not sure if i did the jump wrong? the trucks never shut off before, and it started right back up fine too. and stayed running the rest of the night till i got home.
it wasn't from how you jump started the vehicle. you did that correctly. could be a cam sensor headed south. do you have a spare? if so drive it and see what happens. I wouldn't worry about it too much till it does it again.
My truck shut off like that once while at a traffic light then a week or so later at a fast food drive thru. I ran the DTC's with my Superchips tuner and it coded the CPS. Ordered one (Ford Part) off ebay for about $60.00 shipped. Installed it myself in about 10 minutes no problems since. I also noticed that at the same time my sensor was going bad that my MPG had dropped off by 2-3 mpg's. Now its back like before. By the way, the Stealership wanted $187.20 for the sensor and another $140.00 to install it.
The IH dealer is your local International dealer, the ones that sell and service trucks that have big trucks with International engines in them. Our engines are made by International and put into our trucks. Our engine in International speak is the T444E (Turbocharged 444 cubic inch displacement Electronic). Ever notice a school bus or box truck with an International emblem on the grille? A lot of them, especially the busses will say T444E on the side. That's essentially the same motor that's in our trucks. IH stands for International Harvester, from the farm tractor days.
Head to your International dealer and tell them you need a cam sensor for a T444E. Don't say a Powerstroke. I've run into a few of them that have no idea what you're talking about, and some that are even offended by calling their beloved T444E a Powerstroke.

ok, well hopefully that cps part comes in on monday, i 2 day shipped it. but anyways, saturday, every time i drove it, it worked fine, and there was only an instance where the truck felt like it died for a split second while driving it on the high way. and then it died once idleing again in the evenning, but has always started back up. so does this still sound like a CPS problem? im hopeing and im sure it is, just wanted to hear from you guys is all.
thanks..
Brian..

Because of the title of this thread, I just gotta' sneak this in here:
NEVER have YOUR engine running during the time the other person is cranking his starter motor when offering a jump-start to another vehicle.
Running your engine to initially install some small amount of charge into the other vehicle's battery is OK, but SHUT YOURS OFF BEFORE the other person cranks!
This procedure may just save your alternator diodes.
