Quick Question-Kingpin Bushing alignment

Quick Question-Kingpin Bushing alignment

I know the triangle hole has to line up with the grease fitting hole in the spindle, but does it matter which way the triangle points?? Thanks,

If I understand your question, it sounds like you are asking if there is a "top" and "bottom" to the bushings? I've done this job and I just don't remember for sure, but it seems to me the grease fitting is not in the center (top to bottom) of the bushings. Just hold them next to the spindle and see where the hole falls relative to the grease fitting.

Or have I misunderstood the question? What triangles are you referring to; are the holes in your bushings triangles? I've never seen that.

Yes the hole in the bushing is a triangle shape. The grease "tracks" on the inside of the bushing are not symmetrical vertically, so I dont know if they are supposed to have a certain top and bottom. Unfortunatly for me, the grease hole, or triangle rather is actually about dead center on the spindle bore. I'm about to take a wild but somewhat educated guess and put them in, but I dont want to do it wrong.

Ok I drove the bushings in how I believe is the correct way. At least the grease ports line up. That FOMOCO reamer I got on ebay works like a dream, the kingpin slides in beautifully, not tight, and no wobble. Right now I'm loving life. =)

You won't believe the difference it makes in steering effort and the truck keeping a straight line going down the road! Good job!


PS -- Don't forget to grease it!!

Once I get new springs and shocks, I will reassemble everything and take it for a ride. Cant wait to feel the improvement, and the brakes will actually stop the truck now!
