I was just wondering what carburetor you guys are running on your 460. I guess I like a holley. But seen guys that like everthing from a holly to a carter
I am getting ready to spend the $ 300 plus bucks for a new carb. but not sure. The 460s a low mileage, kind of stock with a tow cam. My thoughts were like a 650 cfm holly. Its more of a hauler and 5th wheel puller, then a race truck. Will the 460 like a 650cfm or not enough carb.
a holley or edelbrock 650 is plenty for a towing motor, anything that is run less than about 5500 rpm a 600-650 cfm carb is fine for. the edelbrock out of the box will give you a little better mileage than the holley and is a little simpler to tune, but the holley gives slightly more power, but either can be tuned however you want
I put a 670 Holley Street Avenger on my '68 2wd. The secondaries are smaller than the ones on the stock carb, and you can notice it when they open, it doesn't feel like it pulls as hard as the old stock secondaries. The secondaries are the same size as the primaries. Do Edelbrocks have larger secondaries?
If you are towing and have an RV cam, then bigger is not better. A 600 CFM vacuum secondary is more than enough for your usage and will help the gas mileage (yeah, like that's gonna be worth bragging about). I swapped out the stock 4180, 600CFM Holley for a reworked (by myself) LIST 1850, 600 CF Holley. Slightly better than 1 mpg increase and the performance is much better, seat of the pants and when going over the mountain passes here I'm in second gear about half as much as with the POS stock carb.
Well I think I got a good deal on a carb. Its new not rebuilt from the parts house. The guy said he maked it down to $ 198.00 out the door. The box says its a Holley 0-4777S
650 Cfm/mech.sec/square manual choke. Also not legal for sale or use in California Pollution controlled vehicles. What ever that means. Gee! It went over my head. I installed it and cranked it,seems to run good. But yet to take it for a spin. Its a big truck. A F-6 Ill just have to wait till I put a load on it. But thanks for the info.

All the mumbo jumbo means is that it is a racing carb that has no business on a truck engine.
i have 750 holley double pumpers on both my 460 and my 429 police intercepter in my two trucks.i only drive the 85 when i need a hd truck and my 71 on weekends so i dont worry about mpg but the 71 getts around 15 if im nice to it.the 85 about 7 all the time
