What years have the factory hydraulic roller cam in the 460, and what was the first year offered? I'm trying to hunt down a distributor for my carbed-conversion '88 460EFI. Any suggestions, including HEI, are welcome. Thanks ,Randy JSM84
never, you can get a hydraulic roller retrofit setup from crane cams, but no 460 ever came factory with a hydraulic roller, the closest from ford would be the ford motorsports solid roller 514 crate engine, but thats the only roller of any kind that ford ever offered for any 385 series application
as for your carb conversion, have you swapped heads yet? if not youll need to to use a carb intake- as for the distributor- just go to any junkyard and pull a duraspark module and distributor out of any 351m-400-429-460- theyre all the same distributor until they went to fuel injection in 1988

Thanks for the replies!!! In regard to the intake and heads, I'm using a custom adapter to allow use of a carb on the stock EFI lower intake and heads. I've plugged the injector holes, and removed the sensor next to the plenum opening, as it interfered with the adapter. Put a plug in that hole, too. I also thought about a salvage yard dizzy, but a reman. unit from Rock Auto is only like $50 or so (plus $40 core charge). I'm also trying to find out if the dizzy drive gear is the same material on my 88 as earlier ones, or if I'll have to change that. JSM84
I wish they did come factory with roller cams, keep us posted on how it runs with the carb conversion, mine is efi for now,but ihave another 460efi motor that i would like to convert to carb, pulled it out of a 1990 econoline,,,wonder if the Crane roller cam is steel?
i wish they did too, then i wouldnt have had to spend 400 dollars on a retrofit cam and 450 for retrofit lifters, and yes the retrofit cam is steel, and the lifters are bearing grade steel, so ill be buying a different distributor gear when i settle on a distributor
