What would be your ultimate truck?
If money was of no concern, what truck would you want?
I like stock trucks, or odd special built trucks built at the time, so mine would be, if they ever even made it, a '48-50 Marmon-Herrington Mercury Ranger. I know they made the Ford version of the Ranger and I would think they made some Mercury 4X4 pickups but does anyone know if they made a Mercury Ranger? I think that would be one very rare bird and worth big $$$. Il like the extra fancy trim of the Mercurys from back then.
Keep the truck within the year range of the forum. Stock or modified. It would be cool if you could include pictures or drawings of the truck.

Bob,
I have so many different interests and like so many different styles I don't think I could narrow it down to just one truck. I love the bone stockers, slightly modifieds, 4x4's, gassers, full blown dark side wonders, basically everything from factory fresh to Keith's mega metal work monster.
Having to constrain it to the model years for this forum helps some and narrows it down to about a million. I do prefer the Bonus Builts
I can't wait to see some of the responses to your question. This should get interesting

Ultimate truck to own, money is no object? Crap! The more I think about it, my ideas change everytime my heart beats. (which is about 120/min. after 1/2 pot "O" joe!)
OK! No more mind changin'! Here it is:
'40 or '41 Ford P.U. "oil slick black" with a red leather interior. Red steelies w/ chrome baby moons/trims with wide whites. Supercharge a flatty for me please! Paint the engine block blood red and throw about 5K worth of billet and chrome @ it...... and a 5 spd. manual tranny.
A VERY close 2nd to this truck is my plan for my '56.

1956 F-100 Big Window, Colonial White exterior, Arcadian blue (the mustang color) interior, real hot 312, ram horn exhaust, AOD, 3.55~ gears in the rear that can spin booooth tires, lights on the license plates, disc brakes all around, power steering (I already got it, but I love it!), a well-sealed cab from rain/wind, a nice riding suspension (but not too nice), a nice tach, and a beautiful sound system. I would drive it every day for the rest of my life listening to Fuel by Metallica.

I'm afraid I am like Bobby, my interests are real scattered. My truck has had my attention longer than any other project. But as far as a single ultimate truck, it would be a $2,000 '48 - '56 that was rust-free original steel with the original, faded ("patina") paint, stock except for stuff like 12v alternator, better exhaust, etc. That was what I really started out looking for, just an everyday driver, not a show truck or a hot rod. I kind of got sidetracked... This was the truck that was inspiring me; I got it in '72 for $250 and drove it two years, enjoyed every minute of it:
Factory59, I have seen (if not '59's) '50's oilfield crewcabs (the electric companies and railroads used them too) around here, even 4x4's. As you can imagine, they are usually not treated well, they were worked hard and put up wet mostly. But they are out there, in SE and NW New Mexico is where I've seen them. There are a lot of IH crewcabs from the early 60's in SW Colorado for some reason.

Bob - Being that I'm an F-3 guy, it'd have to be a '52 Campbell bodied woodie, on an F-3 chassis, sitting on Marmon-Herrington running gear. Period, the end. I know they made the Campbell woodies for Ford truck chassis at least up through '52, but have never seen one as a M-H. I've seen IHs and Dodge PWs as 4x4 woodies, but never a M-H. Chuck says he's never seen one either, but you'd have to think some were made. Kinda like you'd have to think some Merc Rangers made their way across the border.

A solid black stock bodied 48-50 Mercury PU with 351 and AOD, red steelies with stock hubcaps, a nice soft suspension front and rear, Ididit column, PS, PDB, PW, A/C, stereo CD player, custom red leather interior, red oak bedwood, and lots of chrome and polished stainless trim.
I think I just drooled a little on my keyboard.
