Hi Guys: Guess What........ Tore The Top End Apart, And There It Was On The Side Of The Hpop, The Plug Is Missing..... This Would Cause The Hpop To Suck Some Air, Causing My Power Steering Like Noise(noisy Pump When Low Fluid) --- Aerating. **** Me Off, Or What. I Now Have A Meeting With The Ford Dealer, And I Hope He's Gonna Eat The Labour Charges And The Lpop/timing Cover That They Told Me Was The Problem. I'll Work On This On The Weekend, And Get Back To You All On Monday. Thanks For All The Input, And Especially Gofast66 For The Little Note, Otherwise, I Probably Would've Missed This One. Thanks Again........... I JUST PRICED OUT THE HPOP AND IT'S $1000.00, SO I'M GONNA CONSIDER PUTTING A FROST PLUG IN IT AND HAVE IT WELDED INTO PLACE. I'M TALKING TO THE SERVICE MANAGER TOMORROW MORNING AT THE FORD DEALER, AND GET HIS OPINION TOO........ THANKS AGAIN GUYS.

Uh White350, just a question you and your service tech might want to think about.......Where did the old cap end up? If it's down in your oilpan or someplace else, it might cause some damage. You might want them to go looking for the pieces to make sure it doesn't cause you any trouble down the road.
It's not a cap.. It's a ball brg. and it's gotta be in the oil pan by now where it cann't harm anything, so let it go...I tapped mine with a 1/4 npt pipe tap and installed a flush pipe plug with number 1 permatex on it.. all's well now, but looking for the next "weekest link". I'm not glad for you but at least I'm not the only one that this has happened to...
Hey guys: I did the job on Saturday, and I tapped the hpop and installed a pipe plug and used loctite and it works. the Ford service manager was amazed, and he showed one of their diesel techs and they've never seen nothing like it. They are going to make a note to the Ford engineers council. Engine sounds good, and pressure is normal again..... thanks again to all that had input into this problem.
One for the books, I guess.
Hey GOFAST66, I feel for you too. I don't know if you did all your own work, but if you did or didn't, I feel for you. This has been a very frustrating situation for about a month now, and I knew it wasn't hurting anything, because there was still about 6 - 8psi, but just low enough to signal the oil guage and "check gauge" lite. I did all my own work, except for the improper diagnostics at the Ford dealer. What a "time consuming" engine to work on. NOT HARD, JUST TIME CONSUMING. I'm just happy and relieved its over, other than fighting with the Ford dealer, now. and yes I feel better knowing that someone else had the problem too.... I'm grinning from ear to ear(until the next 6.0l psd adventure)
just a side note: the diesel tech at the Ford Dealer suspects that when my egr cooler went(I also changed head gaskets) -- 20,000kms ago -- that the engine may have gotten hot enough to loosen the plugball, as a result of difference in expansion/contraction of a steel plugball and an aluminum hpop housing and over a period of time, finally worked its way out???
Ya well. sounds like a good excuse for him.too bad he couldn't fix it for you.Ya I did all of the work myself as I cann't find a good 6.0 mechanic anywhere near me, at least one that I trust and one that wont take month's to fix something.I figured that sometime somewhere someone had to have this problem not just me. so I,ve been waiting for you.LOL...I know what I went through and if I could save someone else some time and aggravation, that's what this site is for, then I did my part. other people have helped my out so it feels good to return the favor.hope things go well with you my friend. Dan.
