Wastegate question

My truck feels dead when you start to give it throttle. I haven't been able to find any boost leaks anywhere. I have the 6637 installed and a 5 inch exhaust. My buddy has an 02 that is all stock and when u give his throttle it jumps and goes, where mine feels sluggish. My truck is a 2000. I was getting a ebps code so i unplugged the connector to defaul it to open. I was just wondering what to check to see if the wastegate might not be functioning properly and making it feel sluggish?

Well, it sounds correct to check the exhaust back pressure valve. It sounds like it is stuck. I have experienced the sluggish feeling before and have heard of guys with a valve that has gotten stuck.

The wastegate will not have anything to do with your problem. I don't believe.

Fix this first. Then see what happens.

I;m new to this stuff, how could that help? i thought from what i have read the ebps basically is just there for helping the engine warm up. once the engine warms up the valve should open up right?

I just figured if i by-passed it would eliminate that if it was a problem.

What code was it exactly? If it's the EBP sensor that is throwing a code, then your truck could be defueling, which is why it would act sluggish. The fix is pull the sensor off and clean the tube with a long wire brush. The tube starts at the passenger's side exhaust manifold and runs to the front of the engine where the sensor bolts on. When this tube is clogged with soot, you get a false reading on the sensor, setting off a code during acceleration.

A wastegate problem has other symptoms. You would have higher than normal EGT's, low boost, and excessive smoke - all of which occur at WOT or hard acceleration. Normal day to day driving would feel pretty much the same as a healthy truck.

A stuck EBP valve would make your trucks EGT's skyrocket, and it would be sluggish just about any time, WOT or not.

OK, now that I have had a good nights sleep and I can think more clearly, you unplugged the EBPV solinoid and not the pressure sensor, right?
That will, of coarse, default the valve to open.
But you were getting a code. If the valve were giving you trouble and sticking shut, you would notice it! The truck will only go about 30-40 mph tops and feel like it has about 5 HP.
If the truck seemed to be functioning properly and you are still getting the code, then I would look at some diagnosis of the pressure sender and/or wiring harness problem.

I unplugged the connector to default the valve to open, not the connector on the sensor. Sorry for not being clear on that. Only code its throwing is the sensor code which is 470 i think and a 475 code which says the exhaust backpressure vavle not functioning. Truck just feels real sluggish though. Not like my buddies that is basically identical. So the sensor could cause the truck to defuel? I didn't know that. Guess the learn something new everyday.

P0470 would be a faulty sensor more than likely. The P0478 is a clogged sensor tube. If you are getting the 470 and not the 478 I would still clean the tube, but also replace the sensor as well. Double check the connector and wiring to the sensor too, you never know.

The P0475 was set by unplugging the valve connector at the base of the pedistal. It's a soft code and doesn't hurt anything.
