Your brake lamp circuit is greater than 20 ohms to ground. It will need good brake lamp lamps of the right number to work right.
There's a recall out for my 96 because of some computer or something dealing with the cruise control. I'm calling to make my appointment tomorrow. Maybe you have the same problem?
The Ford service manual has a troubleshooting guide for cruise. Had problems last fall with my cruise. On my '94 everything checked ok. Changed the servo and the cruise works.
I keep seeing this stuff about the recalls on the cruise control. Were the '92's covered as well? Never had a problem in 14 years and 148K, but I want a little piece of Ford's money after being thoroughly reamed for the past 2 years. I just wanna force a dealer to work on my truck for nothing for payback. But, you can bet I'll be standing within 3 feet of the truck when they do.
The recall for the cruise control is an issure with the switch mounted in the end of the brake master cylinder. Brake fluid would get into the switch and in some instances would catch the truck on fire. The circuit is always live, so the truck could even catch fire when not being used. I just had the recall done and it only takes a few minutes. They change the switch and use a fused jumper wire to go from the new switch to the old plug that was used on the old switch. There is no cost to you as it is a recall. I hope this helps. Good luck.
kell104, I think it depends on if the switch is leaking. I guess they did it to mine just as a precaution. I know my switch wasn't leaking. I guess it depends on the cituation.
How do I check for leaks? Where should I look? I know I won't catch fire now, but I do want my cruise to keep working and I would imagine without that switch it won't.
It is my understanding that when the plug is taken out of the switch, if you look down inside where the contacts are there would be fluid inside that area. This switch is supposed to have power going to it constantly so it was my understanding that the electricity would ignite the brake fluid.
As for your tech not changing your switch....maybe there are 2 different harnesses that you can get as a result of the recall. I know the new switch is different, causing them to use a different type of connection on the harness. So it was my conclusion that the new peice of harness is an adapter to go from the old harness to the new switch with a in-line fuse.
