Dunno what you guys are talking about. Drone? With my 6637 I have a heckuva loud whistle but I've not heard the intake drone that I'm aware of - maybe I just don't know what to listen for. I was on the 6637 as my first mod in the list for about 2 months and didn't notice anything but a slightly higher HP and a noticeable turbo whistle (cool!). Only after I put on the 5" exhaust did I notice a fairly loud "droning" under a load. The exhaust drone goes away when going downhill or on level ground without accelleration.
Dunno about the orignal application, bdrummonds. I'm still such a lame novice when it comes to the PSD that I don't even know who makes the engine (Cummins, Detroit, etc?).
I have my last oil report i will post in a couple of hours. It's with 5,000 miles on the oil and a 6637 in place of the stock filter. Silicone readings are normal. It will filter!
I have heard so much hype how the 6637 sounds so good and is so cheap, but does it actually clean the fine silt floating in the air. I hear from professionals that high flow filters don't filter out the abrasive silt floating in the air. I installed an AIS to eliminate any question of this. I so bad want to change to the big 6637 for the turbo sounds however I am so afraid to get the bad stuff down inside the engine. Can anyone confirm the filtering ability of the 6637?
Thanks
I'll buy that AIS if you switch.... .. the drone is getting to me too.
Thanks hosemandc, now that we know that the 6637 was originally produced as a filter for dusty areas (think of the duty cyle and were it works for those air compressors) we know it should filter plenty enough for our trucks.
I have an AIR Raid now but if you already had one, would you swap it for the 6637??
Depends, how much is your replacement filter for the A/R.(6637 is @ 29.00 incl. shipping from Fleet Filter) Is your A/R filter a K&N(known on this and other boards as to not filter as efficiently).
The good thing is with the A/R I think you already have an intake tube that you could probably cut to fit with the 6637.
has any one stretched a thin like stalking over the 6637 filter thats been sprayed with an oil to catch more dust? or is that a waste/? im just throwing the thought out there..
The Air Raid is a cleanable filter like the K&N and is supposed to have 1 extra element than the K&N. So what do u think
I just know I paid like 220.00 for the Air Raid but if the 6637 cleans better, I will ditch it for the 6637

"Everything continues to look just fine in the sample. We think it could easily be run longer, if you havent changed it out yet. Insolubles were low at 03%, so your oil filter is still doing a good job at keeping up with oxidation and soot. No fuel or ant-freeze was present and all wear levels were normal. Suggest leaving this oil in for another 2,500 miles and moniter again. Things should still look good." Blackstone, Labs
Old Black has got 164,xxx miles on her and she's looking good.

since you already have spent the money on the A/R keep it and run it awhile. I ran a K&N FIPK on my truck for 200K and I just got tired of cleaning and oiling it,(not to mention I started hanging around on the different forums and found out what a bad job the K&N did, the reports are floating around the forum somewhere, read them and make your own decision about wet air filters) I put the 6637 on and like it a whole lot better, when it gets to dirty to blow out then Ill just throw another on.
