I am in the postion to buy any header right now, and I need to make sure I get the right one. The only people who say they will put my headers in only want to put Shorty headers in. I am little sad about that. I am into performance, and I know shorties will give me the off the line torque i need, but how bout just in general, the long tubes got to be better. But know one wants to put them in, because they are afraid of bolts breaking off of the manifold or it hitting the transfer case, but what do you guys think, get the long tubes any ways? Which ones are best, Thorleys (http://www.autoanything.com/exhausts-mufflers/61A2787A0A0A2115988.aspx), L&L, Hooker? Arnt these all considered off road? WIll I get an ispection with any of these headers. I still want to run the true 3 inch dual to to get a lot of horsepower. What you guys think before I order something stupid. Please be honest and specific. The truck is a 1995 F350, with a 1997 460EFI motor. 4 x4 automatic. On that link I posted above, theres an option for ceramic coated, or chromed, whats the differnece? also, is tri-y off road only, or could i get the 4 into 1, which is better?

Ceramic coated will reduce under hood heat, the chome ones look cool . The try Y's will give better low end torque. You did not say what you would be using the truck for. If you want it for towing, and/or hauling a camper, I say get the try Y's. If all out performance is your goal, then the long tubes would be better. Just my 2 cents.
Yeah I use the truck as my main every day vehicle, and just have been doing something to it every week. So, its prob once a every 2 months or more that I will have to tow an excavtor, but nothing on an weekly basis. So, I want to the truck to have the most performance agility it can have. I looked into Banks, how do those look? 5/8 flange, lifetime warranty, how are there size? Will they let alot of air out?
Why would you say you would get those. I am not questioning you, but you sound like you know a lot of information on these motors, and i will take any advice you give me. Are these shorties? What power gains will I notice with these and the true dual system?
no theyre full length- which is what you would want- shorties are only good for high rpm. if you replace the entire exhaust system with those headers and true dual exhaust with a crossover- id say 35-40 horse improvement. when i was looking up headers for you my standards were full length, ceramic coated, for a 95 460 4x4- and those were the only ones that met those standards
a crossover is the x or h pipe- its where the two sides of the exhaust get joined- id go x pipe personally- smoother transition- less restriction. as for mufflers id probably go BIG-50400FLT from summit
alright cool, what type aggression should I hear from those? What makes this different say from a Flowmaster 40 series, or a Dynomax Ultra flow Welded performance? Does it matter that muffler claims ins only for the 351ci motor?

only the tube sizes matter- i figured dual 3" off the 3" collectors on the headers, 3" xpipe crossover, and dual 3" inlet mufflers- thats about as unrestrictive as you can get no tube size change, and as big as they are they should have a nice deep growl
Where do you put the X pipe? I want this system to sound very mean, the meanest of them all. Its one of the biggest stock motors out there, and it should deserve its title, and i want it to be noticed along with its beatiful looks.
