Techie HELP! Its going to service..
Any ideas what I could request? I'm taking it to Mac Haik tomorrow because this isn't cool..
The 5r110w has a quite large line pump; and the mechanical pressure regulator valve in the pump body is pretty small. The earlier model transmissions were bad for having run away line pressures (especially when the low/reverse apply piston is engaged); these pressures can actually push so hard that the force applied to the low/reverse clutch plates breaks the snap ring fastening them in the case, and will break 2 or more case lug splines in front of the snap ring.
Make sure that the techs check for this issue if there is reason to warrant opening up the case.

Recall 05B27--2005 TorqShift Transmissions, Trucks with Snow Plow Package:
On trucks built prior to 1-12-05, the snap ring on the low/reverse planetary may become dislodged due to the frequent forward/reverse shifting common when plowing snow. If this occurs, damage to the low/reverse planetary or transmission case may occur. Ford will disassemble the transmission, inspect for damage, and replace the snap ring with a revised part, if no other damage is found. This recall has been extended to 9-30-06, regardless of mileage.
Recall on 2004 TorqShifts:
Certain trucks built from 3-8-04 through 6-24-04 may experience a failure of the low/reverse planetary assembly. Specifically one or more of the planet gear pinion shafts may walk out of the carrier. If this occurs metallic contamination of the fluid will occur and will cause harsh or slipping shifts and/or harsh or delayed engagements in forward or reverse. Trucks affected by this recall will have the low reverse planetary replaced if no damage has occured, or will have the transmission overhauled and repaired as needed, along with replacement of the transmission cooler, if damage has occured. This recall has been extended until 3-31-06

Harsh or Delayed Forward or Reverse Engagement:
This could be caused by a sticking line pressure control (PC-A) solenoid. Typically the line pressure will be fluctuatiing wildly (up to 500 PSI!). To service, first remove and insdpect the external cooler line filter. If it contains fine gray metalic debris. If metal is found, the source is most likely a defective revese planetary pinion shaft that is coming out of the carrier and contacting the case or adjacent components. The transmission will need to be disassembled and repaired as needed or replaced. Broadcast Message 3250
If little or no debris is found replace the line pressure control solenoid with P/N 4C3Z-7G383-AA. Broadcast Message 1586/SSM 17874/18051
This repair will require removing the solenoid harness, so a new harness sealing o-ring (P/N 3C3Z-7Z276-AA) will need to be installed. In some cases the solenoid body will need to be removed from the trans to remove the harness and solenoid. In this case the solenoid body gasket (basic P/N 7C155, trans tag number needed) will be needed as well. Note: Do not loosen the 10mm head bolts on the solenoid body. Only loosen the 8mm head bolts.
If the solenoid has been replaced and the condition it still pressent, suspect a contamination issue of the solenoid or a sticking pressure relief valve.
The gas usage is what truly alerted me.. Like I said the last 4 tanks I've had since I bought it.. I would hit 200 miles on half a tank.. Sitting a little above half at 114 miles is a major jump.. I don't know if it was bad diesel from a station.. Not sure..
But the klunks I hear.. One of my friends said "oh its your rear brakes".. Doesn't sound believable..
I just dont want any trouble considering I just paid 26 grand for it.. Grant it I have a warranty but still.. Dealer has no loaner cars so now I have to find a way to school tomorrow night.. They told me I could rent a car... How can a dealership work on your truck under warranty and not have loaners cars for thier customers? If you look up Mac Haik Georgetown you will see they are a rather HUGE Ford house.. Biggest one in this area.. Nothing comes close in Austin..

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I went to MacHaik only to find out the warranty expired 12/10/06 on the Bumper to Bumper.. So the service advisor pulled an Oasis report for me.. Turns out at 24,000 miles November 06 it blew a headgasket on the passenger side.. They replaced the gasket, injector o-rings, fixed a bubbling paint spot on the door and some other things.. He told me to go back to Hoffpauir and get with the Service Manager there..
So I made the 70 mile truck to them.. The whole time my fuel needle sat about 1/2" from Half Way for 70 miles.. Weird.. So anyways I talked with the Service Manager, he was expecting me.. Went over the problems.. He informed me that the klunk I heard is more then likely the driveshaft tapping the gears.. He said on the Super Duties there is not a lot of pressure on the shaft when you stop.. So when you take off and the shaft spins it makes a klunk because its locking in with the rear end.. That I can understand.. But he said if there is too much play it can be worse..
So basically he has his Master Diesel Tech (Guy is a genious!) looking at my truck.. They are fixing the window that make weird noises, checking the tranny and making sure there isnt too much play.. Ripping the Harley Tags off the truck (Its not a HE).. And look over the possibility of flashing it to the 30 second cycle at shutdown.. Leroy said theres a 50/50 chance I could gain MPG or Loose.. I think I'm going to pass on the flash right now because im at a solid 14MPG..
They are also doing the 30k Tranny Flush for 99 bucks for me.. So I'm rather pleased.. It was worth the 70 mi truck up there.. And they gave me an F150 loaner.. Mac Haik wanted me to buy a damn rental car..
