Wow. I have just hung up the phone after recieving the very worst news about my 99F250 Diesel..... a very blown motor!! It seems my #6 injector let go, exploded off and landed in my #6 cylinder where it was pulverized into tiny chunks and smeared into the cylinder wall (aka block) by my #6 piston. So I'm staring at a 11,000 dollar repair bill and saying what the heck???!!! The truck is in excellent condition, this motor had 98K on it....was babied for a good part of its life, and now I'm staring blankly at the next 11 grand I can earn being siphoned out the door because of what?? A bad injector? It just doesn't seem right. I'm looking for some help or at very least an explanation from the powers that be at Ford as to why my diesel motor with under 100K is asking me for 11+ thousand dollars. I'm not under warranty any more (I'm the second owner) and I don't have the 11 grand. Help !!! Can anyone direct me to the proper dept at Ford where I might write or call to plead my case??

Reason: changed f%^&$k to heck
I think you are SOL! In my opinion Ford will not help you out. If they did this for everyone they would be out of buisness real fast. Opps they almost were out of buisness. I would call the number in the manual and talk with a ford rep to see if you have any options, This could be a costly and long battle.
I would get a second opinion. Ford and their techs are not in the business of fixing trucks, they are in the business of making money. I would take it to an independant diesel mechanic. From your wording it sounds like it was played up quite a bit.
After that, if it truly is fubar, then youll need to make the decision.
Ok here is a question for you guys. Looking at Sackodisks problem, makes one think about this question: Fuel Injectors are precision instrument, and have moving parts, thus they have a service life, and more than likely a maintaince schedule. And I haven't heard ANYONE around here talk about it. Would anybody happen to know when injectors are supposed to be inspected/rebuilt/replaced? I know on the big diesels I work around there is an hour life on the whole engine, and various anciliary part...............I've just never heard about a service schedule for the fuel injectors in our vehicles. I'd kind of like to aviod the train wreck that Sackodisk just ran into (sorry man, that kind of luck sucks, and nobody needs it)
Yeah you have to watch the guys at ford. My buddy smoked the rings out of his at 160000 and at first the did the normal change parts to see if it fixes it deal. They changed injectors and other stuff that the computer said was wrong turned out the rings were gone. Long story longer they tried to shaft him out of some core charges on the injectors they put in the old motor cause they said they could not send them back without the cardboard boxes they came in. I think it was about a 12000 finally.
take it some where else first for a second opinion then if it really needs an engine you can get a good used engine and the swap done for alot less than $11k
I have to ask, what is a 99 PSD (complete truck worth)? I cant see myself spending 11K on a 8 model year old truck, but then again if the trucks worth $20,000 and in great shape?
There is nothing wrong with that block! Get it honed and put a new piston and do a rebuild... I did something similar to my 99 psd, melted down the #7 piston... Ford wanted 11g's and I got it done for $3000. I will try to find a pic of the piston... Feel free to PM me and we can talk... you have LOTS of options!!!
Not sure but I think the last gas motor I had to have sleeved was $90 a hole, and that was back to the stock size so a sleeve, piston rings R and R prob. like $2500-$3800 or a reman. short block. GO TO A DIESEL SHOP most dealers will want retail for the ford motor and will not want to fix your old motor because most not all but most of the tecs. are parts changers not mechanics, a good reman. or takeout is prob. your best bet if you cant find a good diesel shop.
Replied to your PM. As the poster above said, Ford will not even pull the heads off 90% of the time... Just tell you "new motor" "$11,500" " thank you, please come again"
Second opinion for sure. (2nd opinions are important for everything anyway)
My experience with the Ford service department when it comes to engines is that they would rather just replace it with BRAND NEW instead of trying to fix it.

What, they don't even ask you if you want fries with that?
