Doing it again this year. St. Elmo again. These are rental 4x4 trails for the most part. Most of them I just run in 2wd low range. There are some very difficult trails in the area though. Plenty of places to camp in and out doors. Nothing in stone yet just an idea on the dates. Looks like August 3rd through the 12th.
This is the next trip I have planned to go camping and off highway driving. Folks who want to do this have expressed intrest in easy trails so they can drive out and back. There are difficult trails in this area though.
I can go early or stay late if folks can't make on these exact dates.
There are places for folks to stay from high end rooms in Buena Vista to a patch of dirt to put a tent on. If you need info please post up and I'll post the information.
If you like fishing Glen elder up by Cawker City has a wonderful lake. Or if we wanted too we could camp at the pasture up at my folks place. 3 spring fed bass ponds, nice creek for paintball, and it is pretty secluded.... Or I have some land up by Lovwell lake Just south of Superior Ne. ... Just for a few camping ideas.
These are some links for places to stay. Now is the time to make reservations. All For Fun week will be in Salida the week before and things may already be booked up.
This is a link for Forest Service campgrounds. Iron City CG is the Dances with Bears place. Cascade CG may be also. Those are the only two that have trees around them. The others in the area are lower and in open non scenic places.
If I can get my 67 more road worthy I'm going to try to make this one. I may only be able to do 4 or 5 days around a weekend though. Cory has also expressed interest in bringing his Ranger along as well.
I just got a new rear axle (with 4:10 gears) yesterday. SO I am so stoked about this trip. My wife is so sick of hearing about it and can't wait till I go, if just to get some quiet time.
On call this week, so you know what that means. :-( Have a graduation on Saturday in Salina, but I am thinking Monday night, then every night during the week.
