First off...3wheelers are NOT deathrods. The more you preach that they are, the worse our sport becomes. A 3wheeler takes more skill to ride, in that you have to lean a lot more and use more body english than you would on a 4wheeler. 3wheelers got their bad name, because back in the '80's, it was cool to let your 8 year old son ride a 250R and helmets were laughed at. No offense dude...but it pisses me off when people call these things "death machines" or "kid killers". 90% of the people who say these things have never ridden a 3wheeler...let alone even sat on one. Thoes that do have experience, usually got it from watching some dumb*** parent letting their kid ride one and watching them get hurt.
Sorry if I was the one that tickes you off a little. I only mean that I don't have the experince to ride one. Borrowing that guys 400ex would solve the solution, but I was a little worried to just ask some random guy to borrow his quad. We aren't really friends or anything. My unlce has a Polaris 500 4x4 (I know), but he won't let me bring it to my house. That would answer the question once and for all, but family differences will keep that from happening. Oh, the Cannondale is out. Parts seemed to be pretty hard to get and the guy sold it out from underneath me which I am really not too upset about. It has no reverse anyways.
I wasn't trying to start any wars here, but they did put a stop to the production of three wheelers for a reason..............safety. I HAVE ridden one, and it wasn't a 250R, but it was a large honda, and the handling is VERY sketchy on rough terrain. I wouldn't ride another one. Yes people did let kids way to young ride them, but even an experianced rider can't make one stable. So, now you know where I stand. I get pissed when people say things without the experience to back it up too, but I had the experience, and I'm going to follow the direction of the masses and side that 4 wheels are much more stable and safer than 3.
but even an experienced rider can't make one stable.
LMAO!!! I guess you haven't heard of Trikefest. You'll find a whole gang of riders including myself that can without a doubt make a trike stable. You just need the skill for it.

4 wheelers are more stable but I wouldn't talk about experience on 3 wheels when it comes to ATC crazy, I promise he's got more then you from the way you're talking. FYI, more people have died on 4 wheelers then 3 wheelers so there's plenty of groups that would love to shut them down too. Thanks to the lesson learned from trikes we have enough lobbyists to currently prevent this from happening.
This started out as a good thread but now it is getting into a pissing match because people can't act like adults. Bact to the situation at hand the guy that is interested needs to tell use the price range and his skill level before we can tell him what he should buy. I had a 700 raptor and loved it rode it on trails, rode it in the snow, and raced on dirt flat tracks. If you have the 7000 duggets to spend, or a decent credit score to finaince it go for the 700 raptor. It is reliable, user friendly, and it is manual shift. As long as your don't get stupid with it it will not kick your ***. Also mid coast ATVs has a forum that is packed with info. Now please people lets be adults in here.
DEATH DEATH, Mommy save me from my 3 wheeler! , in all seriousness here, if you jump on a three wheeler, exspecting it to react and handle like a four wheeler, it will feel like those rear wheels are trying to kick you over.
Also take a look at the Yamaha Rino. It might be more than you want. I have drivem one on a trail and it was great. Teh only bad side is low hanging tree's aroun 5 to 6 feet of the ground. I would wait to see if they put that 686 FI motor thats in the raptor and grizzly.
My Wife Has A 350 Raptor, And I Love To Ride It. Has Plenty Of Power, reverse, and 6 Foward Gears. It Also Has Electric Start And I Think You Can Use The First Three Gears In Reverse. The Suspension Is Comfy To. Me And The Kids Ride Dirt Bikes, But I Sure Like The Raptor. Its 4x2 And Will Go Any Where We Ride. We Live In Oregon And There Is Nothing But Hills Here.
Will do. I have a few to check out. My budget is small... like $2500 to $3500, maybe less if i can swing it. I am just looking to go put around on some trails. I'll let you all know! Thanks for all the help!
I'm done making comments on here. I have never said I had more experiance than anyone on three wheels. Just said that I have ridden one and found it much less stable than a quad. CDR motorsports only wanted 4x4 or 4x2 feedback on quads so 3 wheelers were off topic to begin with. He wasn't looking for trikes. Once again, I'm not saying I have more experiance than anyone on here, and If some of you want to turn that around anyway, fine. I'm not longer posting in this thread, so bash me all you want. I'm going to do the bigger thing and just stop, because i'm not here to **** people off, I state what I know from my personal experiences. That's all, I'm not going to be in a pissing match. I'm done here.
i ride my freinds he has a older honda 250cc rwd atv and a newer honda 650cc rincon 4wd
i have alot of experence on atv's and there very hard to get stuck even the 2wd ones i tried
all i can say is there great fun but be carefull the first time i jumped and atv it went strait and i went off sideways didn't break any bones but it did hurt for a few weeks
Well, I purchased a Polaris Trail Blazer 250 the other day. Not really what I wanted, but it is very fun and will hold me over until I can afford something else in a year or two. It needs very little work and for $1200 I couldn't beat it.+ It does pretty well in the mud... I was surprised. Thanks again guys for all of your help. In a year we'll go back to the debate again when I am looking for something new!
Always do. I am wearing a motorcycle helmet with the visor and everything right now. It is sooooo heavy. I am going to get more of a dirt bike one this week.
i know 2 people with polaris 250 trail blazers. i've ridden them a couple of times. the automatic transmission makes it easy to ride, which makes them enjoyable. the only bad thing about that machine is you need some momentum to make it up steep hills. if you stop half way up, you might have trouble getting it going again.
