I own a 1979 f-250 4x4 reg. cab. The truck had a poorly grafted on rear section (frame). The graft was a mistake for the guy who did it as he put it together with a twist. I also own a 2wd f-250 s/cab. I want to know if the running gear from the 4x4 will transfer to the good frame on the s/cab. I am a welder so I can handle quite a bit of fab work. If the frames are totally different I will take another lok at my plans. I plan to put a propane tank behind the seat and seal it off from the cab and vent it to the outside and keep the full box.
thanks, Clint
Both trucks are 1979. Normally I would agree with you, but the 4x4 needs a frame and the s/c has a bad motor and a straight frame. The s/c was given to me for a little welding I did so this project is to salvage one truck out of two.
These trucks are easy to strip down to the chassis in a few afternoons. Welders can play by a different set of rules, so might as well blow them both apart and park the chassis next to each other. All will then become clear.
You might even elect to go big-truck style and get two C-channels the right length, then use parts from the donor frames to do yours. You could have a seriously strong frame the length you want with the features you want.

He does not need to stretch the frame. He wants to take the front axle out of the regular cab 4x4 an put it on the SC 4x2. I say go for it. If you have a welder it should not be that hard.
The reg cab frame was pretty well wrecked by the guy who modified it .It will be easier to move the front running gear to the straight s/cab frame. I am looking forward to having both cabs off so I can do a side by side comparison.
I don't have a photo of the rear cab mounts But s/cab and crew cabs the mounts are on the outside of the frame. I found out that there is another hole under the crew cab that will let you put the rear mounts inside the frame like a reg cab. I don't know if this the same for the s/cab. I had to cut a hole on the inside for the bolts to go through. IF you're going to swap cabs.
Where are you located? Im looking for a solid 2wd rollin chasis and possibly a whole 2wd truck. I have a 4x4 '79 F250 as well. My frame is junk though, its very rusted and pitted from the original owner....
