I have a 1999 f-150 that the light for the overdrive will blink like it is turned off, but it is not off. I have noticed that in the morning when it is cold it will shift from gear to gear slow. The overdrive is working but the light is still blinking. i would appreciate any input on where to start with this problem.
Try doing a search on earlier posts. I have a completely different problem with mine but when I was searching I found several posts that sound like what you're looking for. Apparently the overdrive light blinks as a code to indicate some kind of problem but I'm not sure exactly what it is.
your problem is gonna be the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor)...mine does that as well but mine is a 97 4.6L....theres one on the tailshaft of tranny and one on rear end...the speed sensors cause the speedometer to not work correctly or at all, causes the overdrive light to blink, and can also cause the ABS light to come on if one/they are faulty...id check them 1st
