I'm not sure how may of you are near an IKEA store, but i saw a range of metal cabinets in there that look like they may be good for garage storage. Its the IKEA PS range
Keeps wood dust, grinding dust, etc. off of things.
Keeps expensive tools out of sight. (if your brother-in-law can't see it, he probably won't need to borrow it)
Can be lockable so things stay put, away from children, etc.

That one I understand...
My mom's pissed that I have a "big box of car parts" that I plundered for my trofeo (extreamly rare car)...
She doesnt know about the 2 good stearing coulms, 2 working digital dash's, 2 working climate control computers, 2 egr valves, 1 frount bumper, and misilanious interior peices...
She found the box with 3 stearing wheels, fog lights, and my new parts (spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filters, oil filters ect...)
I need some cabinets then I guess

And got some metal cabinets. Two were matching, good quality. Shelves are adjustable. $150 for two. I got a couple others from them, and from other sources. Some are junk, you have to check out the handle and locking mechanism.
I also use file cabinets, $15 each at garage sales, your mileage may vary.
If you have an outfit like this, you might get lucky and find matching cabinets of industrial strength for the same or less than the flimsy K-mart quality units sold elsewhere.
I bought a used metal file cabinet that is made for sideways records. It is about 3' wide and about 4' tall. The fronts are like awnings they swing out and up and then you push them in. The drawer (it has 4 drawers) then slides out. It is perfect for all of your power tools and I put my catalog rack (old school it holds real paper catalogs) on top. Best thing I got it for $5.
I got one of those 3' wide and 5' tall for $0 when the office moved and there was no space for it. I keep catalogs in it since it is all set up for hanging files.
Those things are solidly built and can handle a heavy load. I just removed the hanging file stuff so it would be open. Works great. I think I attached a pic instead of inserted a pic.
