I "recycle" used kitchen cabinets etc for my shop. I usually paint the interiors gloss white to make it easier to find things in them. Same with the inside of the doors. Paint the outside whatever color you want that won't show greasy paw prints...
Sorry about that. I didn't know I only had an hour to edit my posts. I understand where your coming from though. I'm a mod on another board and hate when people put img tags on pics because our site is asp and doesn't need the img tags.
Here we have dialup users and pictures in a thread can take forever to load. It will be nice when broadband is available all over. I would never go back to dialup. I am just waiting to get a CHOICE about broadband tho, I hate dealing with monopolies.
I have wooden cabinets salvaged from my high school when they renovated. They were used in the science department and except for the fact that they were 30 years old, they were fine. They showed their age somewhat, but were well built out of solid wood. They told us teachers that if we wanted them, go get them because they were just going to go in a dumpster if we didn't.
I took a pile of them: several for my shop and a couple of tall ones for the basement to store canned goods.
Nothing in my shop is color coordinated or matching in manufacturer etc, because I am as cheap as they come when it is time to spend money on such things. If I can get it free and make it work, I am thrilled.
I got a bunch of metal cabinets out of a medical lab. Heavy duty units that will still be in use long after their replacement particle board crap replacements are in a dumpster. I am extremely "thrifty"...
Remember: Re-use is the most efficient form of recycling!
I'll second the kitchen cabinets.I take old metal ones, paint 'em with Walmart red spray paint, and change the handles.Looks as good as any store bought "system".
Found couple recycle office supply outlets that advertise on regular basis so picked up couple heavy duty drawer type file cabinets, the long type, and a heavy duty double door file cabinet all for less than $100. Shortly after, happened to stop at recyle center and noticed couple heavy duty drawer type file cabinets, when I inquired about the price found asking $30 each and thought it was a good deal only to find at check- out it happened to be 1/2 price day. Now have plenty of room to store parts, tools, etc., but little room for the vehicles, a nice dilemma.
Like many, I used recycled kitchen cabinets for my garage. While their dark oak facings make them durable, they are hardly "tech" looking with their worn appearance and ornate handles. Unless you have a lot of time to prep them, they come out equally crappy after a coat of rattle can paint. My solution, after a decent cleanup, is to use trunk or stone texture paint (yes, rattle can), preferably neutral gray with tiny black/white splatter. It hides imperfections and woodgrain. When replacing ornate, tarnished, fake brass handles with aluminum rod from HD,that you bend and thread, they look high tech for your garage.

I have a variety of wooden kitchen cabinets (Still has the cut out for the refrigerator), one metal old Airforce locker, a couple old medical cabinets, and my special find is a old water bed drawer set, three piece, I made then into my work bench drawers. Everything free.
Sorry no pic's as of yet.
