Electric brake controller
I have a pigtail I guess it just gets spliced to the controller. Where does it plug into though ? a pic would be nice.
Is that all there is to it, splice the controller to the pigtail and plug it in ?

You didn't say what year - but on my '01, you have to remove the fuse panel under the steering column. You find the female end of the plug to the right, near where the edge of the fuse panel meets the underside of the dash (basically, right where your right knee would be if you were stitting int eh driver's seat). It's a pretty tight squeeze to get the plug in.
Yes, you will use that plug to splice in to the brake controller. I just bought a Prodigy Brake controller and got a pigtail with it that matches the Ford plug - no splicing required (Plug-N-Play).
You also should have a relay that needs to be plugged in to the power distribution box - or may have alreay been plugged in. This provdes the power to the brakes and 12v aux to the trailer that you are towing. Without the realy, all you will have is lights.

I have an '01 and a prodigy also.. I drilled a hole in the back left side of that little package holder under the radio,pushed the wires through it and then spliced the two ends together,plugged the Prodigy into the one end and pushed it into the package holder (tight fit and it hasn't come out yet) and then plugged the other end into the socket under the dash.. The sweetest sound in the world is the click when that one seats..

Thanks a lot guys so they sell the ford harness separate ? I like that better.
I have an 02 if it matters.
How do you like the prodigy ?
I had a POS brake controler in the ranger I totalled. I hated it. It gave you no real feed back beside just hitting the brakes to see how hard you have them set. From my understanding the prodigy you can set it at different power levels and it show you a digital display or something.
What about the relay the guy was talking about in post #2 ?

When I bought my Prodigy off of ebay (tons cheaper), the dealer didn't offer the Ford harness. So, I went to my local trailer shop and bought the generic, Ford specific harness they had on their shelf.
I call it a generic, Ford specific harness because it had the wires properly configured for the newer Ford vehicles, plus it had the needed Ford plug on the end of the harness (so it could be plugged into the harness under your dash) but the other end of the harness was bare, with no plug. That way it could be used with any brake controller, once the proper plug for that specific controller had been spliced onto the end.
So I clipped the Prodigy plug from the generic harness that came with the brake controller I bought off of ebay, and spliced it onto the Ford harness I purchased from the trailer shop.
Voila, instant Ford specific harness for my Prodigy controller!
