Cheap cam upgrade possibly...

This would be worth the money at $35 for this cam right guys? Looking for something cheap to put in the ole 302EFI motor in my truck... It's a 92 F-150 302EFI with the base roller cam in it? Does gas mileage suffer from putting a upgraded cam in our 92-96 F-Series trucks also?

Yes, that cam works nice, it's similar to the '94-on truck roller. The gas milage you get is directly proportional to the throttle position, obviously.

I doubt that it will make a noticable negative difference in MPG. It might actually improve, depending on how you drive it?

On edit: The HO cam should be used with 1.7 rockers to better realize the potential improvement in power.

Mustang,

Do I need to buy aftermarket valve covers if I use those 1.7 Roller Rockers...? Are those Roller Rockers a direct bolt on also? Would you please give me a link to the best kit for those roller rockers that really does sound like the best way to go... HO cam with 1.7 roller rockers!

Thanks again,
Jason

Before buying or bidding on that cam ask the seller how many miles were on the engine it came from.

The pedalstal mount 1.7 roller rockers from Ford Racing/Crane and Crane Energizer are a direct bolt on swap, and shouldn't need taller valve covers.

Shouldn't, but that depends on the covers. I've used the O.E. Cobra rockers with 83-85 Stang finned aluminum covers and had them bump the filler baffles in two sets. The Cobra 5.0 came with sandwich type, black painted steel covers from what I've read in Ford's 5.0 book. I have two sets of these but never tried them to see if they work. They sure look like they wouldn't, they look to be no taller than the old 289 Hi-po covers.

Baddad I asked the guy on ebay and he said 100,000+ on the cam and I found another cam on ebay which is the same and it had 130,000 on the motor with the cam in it? Do you have any 1.7 roller rockers lying around that you are wanting to sell that would work good on my 92 F-150?

The Cobra valve covers arn't very tall, about the same as EFI HO covers, but they were used with the Ford/Crane pedalstal mount rollers. When we installed stud mount rockers, the Cobra covers wouldn't work anymore, but they seemed fine with the pedalstal mount.

Roller cams don't wear out at the same rate as regular cams, due to the roller tappets and the metalurgy. They will usually show very little wear even at 200K. Unless, they have been damaged by a bad roller lifter, or abuse, or poor oiling..ect...then they would still be fine, even with high miles.

No roller rockers but do have a couple HO roller cams, one has less than 100K on it from an 88 Lincoln Town Car.

Baddad you think if I yank my stock roller cam and put a HO cam and some roller rockers I will feel a nice difference in power? Just asking if it is worth all the trouble that's all!!! How much for the low mileage HO roller cam?

L8er man,
Jason
