Planning on ordering 08 Superduty Crewcab this week and am not sure whether to go with 8 ft vs 6.75 bed. Order guide states 75% of retail customers opt for shorter bed, but local dealer in WA states they sell more long beds. Will be using the truck for pulling, so not sure if I can say i'll use the longer bed all that often.
Opinions on function and looks (I know this is subjective, but retail is important) are much appreciated!
I checked into pulling RV'S & companies won't lease on anyone with short bed because when pulling a 5th wheel trailer there was too much damage to truck & 5th wheel trailer when turning short. I have a shortbed brand X. Nice truck but sucks when hauling plywood & etc.

Back in 2003 I debated the same. I went with the SB and wish I would have gone LB. Also be sure to go F350 and not F250. While the tow capacity is the same, the payload is not. A heavy trailer tongue load will make a F250 squat where the F350 will not.
Both have advantages and disadvantages. The long beds are more stable on the road because of the longer wheelbase. That is great when you're actually towing a heavy load but becomes a looooooong beast to navigate as a daily driver. You also have to consider where you'll park it at night. Does it fit in your garage?
The short bed should not be thought of as a poor towing vehicle, just the opposite. The short bed is very capable and stable in itself and would only compare less to the long bed in the most extreme loading/weather conditions.
The shortbed is easier to park and has a slightly tighter turning radius. If you've ever taken a Superduty to underground parking, the short beds fit in alot better.
What are you towing? A big fiver, a boat, a utility trailer? If its just a daily driver that does nothing except pull a small trailer and a bag of cement get a short box. If you ever go to a fiver you just get the sliding hitch so you don't bang up your cab.
If its going to be a work truck of any kind do yourself a favor and get the long box.
Well I had an 01 F250 CC with the SB. I wish it was the LB for 2 reasons, one I'd prefer to haul stuff with the tail gate closed and the big thing: the bigger fuel tank.

how big is that tank? my dads 2000 F-250 with the short box had a 120L tank, my 2003 F-350 with the short box has a 110L tank
I see it that if you put a nice looking wide tool boweatherguard extra wide) on a long box it looks just as nice as a short box but you gain a usable lockable tool box and essentially have a short box bed but if need be you can remove it and have a long box.
If you ever haul a 4wheeler then a long box is priceless.
A lifted long box 3/4 or 1 ton long box crew cab looks great too if you ever had the need to go higher..
Decisions, descisions is'nt life so frustrating when you finally can get the finer things but its never that easy to decide.. good luck...
I like the long wheelbase for its ride. It feels limo like and smoothes out bumps better. It's harder to get sideways in the snow and when you park no one questions that you need two spots. Plus the 8' bed does come in handy.
Will be pulling a 26 ft Boat, pulled it once this summer with the Expedition and decided real quickly it was time to upgrade to the Superduty.
Total weight pulled will be close to 8500 lbs....
I mainly use my truck for towing my boats and can tell you that you'll find the SB much easier to maneuver at boat ramps when launching and retrieving your boat.
