Hey guys,
I just bought a 98 ranger 4x4 with the little switch on the dash for the 4x4. The guy said everything worked fine with the 4 wheel drive but I tried to shift it in today and am having problems.
Tranny in nuetral switch to 4x4 high nothing happens back up real slow but it never engauges. Same with lo. The 2 lights flash on the dash once in a while when the switch is either on 4x4 hi or lo. But the lights dont stay on and it is not engauged. Needless to say I am going to take it to the guy and talk to him about it, but if it something easy I will just fix it. What do you guys think it up?
"Well", there are 2 things that plague these trucks, 1) the electric shift motor isn't working, it's the motor on the back of the t-case that shifts it when you push the button, turn the **** whatever. 2) most common on 98-2000 rangers, is the pulse vacume hubs. It can be hard to find the vacume leak as the hubs are part of the vacume system. The easy fix, is a set of manual AVM hubs, you can get them form
tellico4x4 for 98.95$ a set. These hubs will fix the problem once and for all. Have someone lay under the truck and listen for the shift motor to run when you push the button, if it does run, then it's more than likely the hubs.
