I've been smelling fuel for a couple weeks, not bad just a whiff every now and then. Anyway, popped the hood and it looks like it's at the front of the engine, passenger side, there some leakagage down lower. Going to go out in the freakin snow, need to change a shredding serp belt, and see what I can, but thought I'd poll the mob, any quick ideas? Didn't seem to be coming from the filter/separator area, but I'm not positive.
Speaking of the serp belt, it sucks to have to pull the rad hose to do, I know there's only so much room but.......
You might check the water drain valve for the fuel bowl. The seals go bad ocassionally... you might have to crawl under & see where your fuel is leaking from... if its a drip tube, follow it up.
I had a fuel leak at the drain on the front of the engine. I researched the orings because the local parts stores did not have the viton o rings for under $20 that I needed. Come to find out, diesel is compatable with almost any o ring. So I went to Ace Hardware and bought a Buna 1/2" od 1/4" id, and intstalled them. No leak since.
even if the screw heads are for a torx bit, you can use an allen wrench. Just don't overtorque the screws because you stand a chance of cracking the plastic. Then you have a large parts bill to replace the entire valve.
