Im also considering stacks. However, i have to have a muffler in there somewhere. Do you think i could fit a muffler in between the stacks and Y?
That's be pretty tough IMO. The Y is about even with the back of the front wheels/wheelwells. Though you realize that if you do dual stacks you don't NEED (or want) to install a Y-pipe. You'd want to come straight from the down-pipes off the manifolds to mufflers to the stack-pipes.
Even then it will be difficult to fit mufflers under there because your pipes will need to be run between the frame rail and tranny. I don't think there will be enough room for the thickness of the mufflers - even if you find some short enough.
my dad's 84 has the dual exhaust on it, and it has the mufflers hanging vertical instead of horizontal, and they fit just fine that way...
Well, sure, it goes without saying tht you could always put the mufflers in the stack pipes. Of course to do that you're gonna' wanna' make sure they're some pretty, blingin' looking mufflers.
Prolly not gonna' want a pair of rusty ol' Cherry Bombs stickin' up there for the whole world to see....
