explore niose

when backing the explore when turning the wheel it pops and when i brake the first time. its my freinds suv and he would like to know what it could be???

what year, 2 or 4wd, miles, etc?

My dad's explorer has the same problem. When he backs up and cuts the wheel hard in one direction it makes a clicking noise and you can also feel vibration in the steering wheel. We replaced the hub assembly on that side but, the problem didn't go away. It is a 02 EB 4x4.

I agree with quicklook2 had same prob 2 weeks ago
replaced the universal and rebuilt the slip joint and goodbye vibes

My '92 used to do what fordfanwv describes. I'm not sure what the cause was, but the noise went away when I changed the front shocks. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but that's what fixed it.

Because the design of the front suspension is so different between 1st and 2nd and 3rd gens, it really would help to know what year Explorer you have.

PUpchurch, yours does sound like CV joints to me.
