Stock 351 efi mods...

Ok, Im putting a 351w EFI in my Dads 95 F150 2wd 5.0/4r70w. The engine will be a runner from the JY. Im planning on putting some long tubes, Y-pipe, and a flowmaster side exit on it. It will be running on the 5.0 MAF computer. My question is what easy mods should I do to the engine before I stick it in? I was thinking port matching the upper/lower intake, opening up the #5 intake port on the manifold. I was also thinking of port matching to the heads. Obviously a 180* thermostat. Maybe?? grind out the thermactor bumps? I might even remove the heads and have them surfaced .030 to get a little bump in compression. I was thinking of having the cam reground By delta to a magnum 260H. Anyway, I was just looking for some suggestions, or maybe what others have done. Im not going to buy heads or anything, I dont think the $350 for gt40p's is worth it and I dont have the money for aluminum yet.

Don't use a 180 degree t-stat. Use the proper 195.

You can port match stuff but they'll be pretty close as it is. w/o dropping coin you won't be able to get much and it might be best to leave it alone.

Agreed, with a lower rated t-stat, the ECU may bounce between open and closed loop in cooler temps.

When you get it all together, bump the base timing a few and that'll help.

What motor is in the truck now? Are you getting a complete 94-96 efi 351 or an older flat tappet motor. If it's older definately slide a decent cam in there, the stock one is wimpy. Check out some of the E7 porting links on the web for hints on what needs to be done, and what not to do. You will definitely have a motor that runs much stronger than stock with these simple mods.

From my own experience, I'd recommend some type of after market tuning with a mild 351 build, using a 302 ECU and MAF. In stock form, a 351 will run and drive with ported heads and an after market cam, but the tuning wont be close to being "spot on". If you can locate a 351/5.8 MAF & ECU, it'll definitely be closer.

Don't go overboard with the modifications on that 302 if you do plan on a 351 swap in near future.

because he is running the 4r70w tranny he will need to retain the 5.0 ecu. after the build will need a chip tune to get every ounce of power to the ground. if you can locate a gt40 ligtning upper/lower that would help.
