Hey guys I am building a 300 Engine and was needing some info to see how far I can go with out disturbing the efi computer system. I am not looking for crazy just would like to wake it up a lil. I was thinking stock 300 efi head with some port and polish work. Screw in head studs and roller rockers. I done a 240 head and put sbc valves for a carb set up but didn't no if I could do that on a efi system? So most likely i will go with stock style valves. I would like to bump the compression up to 9:5:1 if I done my calculations right which can be done with std 360 FE pistons but again did not no if raising compression and boring would throw the computer off? I am going with gear driven timing set. I no there noisy but there durable. Stock efi exhaust manifolds with 2.5 true duals to a H connection. Next size bigger injectors with cold air intake. That is what I'm thinking but didn't no if its possible with out a mega squirt set up. The truck is a 1996 short bed reg cab 4x4 5 speed. Let me no what you guys think. Thanks
Sorry I meant to put metal timing gears. More than likely aluminum/steel. And your prolly right about the bigger injectors there is prolly no gain over the stock ones. The engine only has 110,000 miles so I could prolly get by with just nee upper end head/cam work and be just as happy. I am pulling the engine to do the build/work just thought it would be a good time to rebuild it. But if there is still cross hatches in the cylinder walls there prolly ain't no point especially if raising the compression will throw the efi system off. The truck doesent use oil but is starting to leak it at the oil pan so no matter what i will put a new rear main and new gaskets. Doesent seem like there is to many guy that have hopped up 300 Efi's wish there was more to see how they turned out.
