first off, I'd like to say 'hello' to all as this is my first post. I am the owner '92 F150, 302 & E4OD auto., 4x4, reg. cab/flareside with over 200,000km on her. She mainly see daily driving, a lil towing and some mud-bogging.
over the winter I'd hoping to put together a new mill for her. I have another 302 awaiting a rebuild and planned on using a Lunati truck avenger cam and MAF conversion. I have a Ford Racing GT40 intake manifold w/ BBK 70mm throttle body that I'd like to use but was wondering how hard the install would be. I know the 351 lightnings had the intake but how hard is reusing the throttle/trans. cables and EGR stuff?
also, I know someone who has a set of GT40P heads. I had initially planned on just rebuilding the stockers. I'm guessing this is a silly question... but will the Mustang GT40P headers work on an F150 or are there any other options?
The heads will bolt up and function fine, but you are probably gonna have to fabricate headers yourself unless you use factory manifolds for that head. These heads require a rather unique and rare header because of the plug angle, I'm not sure if they are even made for trucks.
The throttle plate and connections should not be too big a problem, the 5.0 Explorer and 5.0 cobra mustang used this intake, as well as the Lightning. Used and new parts are available to fit it.
The GT-40 intake you have...is that for a 302? You mention the lightning, which has a 351 and the 351/302 intakes do not interchange. The upper might but the lower doesn't.
1996 Explorers had GT 40 heads that headers will bolt up to. From 1997-2000 the explorers had the GT 40P heads with the unique plug angle, making them difficult or impossible to bolt up headers to. Look for the 1996 heads with GT cast on the corners of them. Bill.
See if you can find a set of GT-40Y's...they're FRPP pieces but they're around. They're aluminum and go for about $600-$700 new and much less used. I picked up a set for $700 new.
They're slightly better than all those other production based GT-40s and will save you about 50 lbs on the motor and allow you to run more timing or compression w/o detonation since they're aluminum.
