I bought this console, pretty cheap and cheesy and the junky wood paneling contact paper like finish didn't last long. So I wanted more. So I took the original basic frame, then customized it. I wanted some power accesories there, and honstly I like the burlwood finish in the truck. Here's what I did
New top and cupholder section from MDF board - I Laminated it with a 1/8" thick curled maple (closest to burlwood I could find).
Stained to match the stock burlwood - then coated with clear laquer
Trimmed existing legs with a iron on tape (made from real wood) that was stained and laquered as well.
700 watt power inverter added - direct wired to battery
(3) 12 volt cigarette lighter plugs added - direct wired to battery
Streamlight Stinger flashlight added, with power for the charger connected to a switched relay only on when the key is on.
You're hired. When can you ship mine?
Edit: okay, not really. Thats actually a weekend project I was gonna try and get motivated for tomorrow. But that looks real good. I like some of your ideas. Feelin a little more motivated.
Thanks a lot. As if I didn't have enough to do. Now I have to go out in the garage and see if I have any wood so I can make one of those... Just kidding, Nice job!
It would be perfect for my truck, as the location of the stock lighter above the cupholder stinks! I wonder if I can make one that will co-exist with my shifters...
