I have a 52 F1. The id tag is gone from inside the cab. I've heard that the vin number is stamped somewhere the cab mounts but I looked and I couldn't find it. After I find the VIN number I'd like to find something that will decode it to figure out what kind of factory options it had just for the heck of it. If you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I don't have the original clutch mounting stuff but where on the frame? Directly to the left of the steering gear box? Is it on the top or the side? How do I decipher what the letters mean in reference to what factory options came on it? Where can I go to find information on how to decode VIN numbers for early model Ford pickups?
I believe it is stamped on the top of the rail, but I'm not exactly sure as far as right or left of the gear box. I have a book that will decipher the vin number for you if you can find it. There are also shop manuals for sale on this site's store. I'm assuming you have no title for this truck? Unfortunately, your vin number will only tell you the series, which engine, the model year, which assembly plant, and the sequntial production number. The rest of the info would have been on your rating plate. This is a real long shot, but worth a look anyway. Check the underside of your seat. You may get lucky and find a card stuck above the springs with the same info your rating plate had. If it is still there, be very careful removing it as it will be very brittle. Please post back and let me know how you do.
