87 E-150 manual shifter problem
I have a 87' E-150 with a 3-speed w/od manual trans,also it has a floor shifter and that is my question. When you want to shift into reverse you need to pull up on the shift handle to engage the gear.There is a sheet metal retaining clip that holds the shifterhandle in place, mine is broken and every time i try for reverse i end up with the shifter handle in my hand. does anyone have or know where i can get a replacement. i tried the local ford dealer and they said the part is obsolete and no dealer in the database had one. if a replacement is truley no longer available has anyone come up with a remedy for this aside from an aftermarket shifter. i am trying to do this as cheaply as possible as the van will only be used on a farm or local deliverys. thanks

I am a regular visitor to the local up-scale junk yard, "Pull-A-Part", here in Atlanta (Duluth, actually). Floor shift (3 spd w/OD) vans come in fairly often -- one every two months or so. But the shifter is usually among the earliest parts to be taken. So you have to monitor the contents of the junk yard regularly in order to capture these unusual parts.

ac4gp, thank you. i have 2 u-pull-it yards close to me . and they both told me the same thing.i did locate a dealer in alabama who has one in stock but you have to buy the shifter handle to get the clip at $95. plus shipping. i am going to see if i can just drill a hole and bolt the lever in place.
