I was wondering what was everyones opinion on tonneau covers?..On my last truck i had bought directly from ford(the soft one )and it wore in a few years(the snaps became stuck and the rails wouldnt unlatch). I was lookin at the truxedo soft cover but i also liked thier low pro model.Anyone have these or comparable models ? Also is there really a fuel gain with coverin the back , I want a cover to shield my tools more than i really care about the fuel savings .Thanks
I've been thinking of a tonneau myself. I want it to cover from the weather and casual prying eyes, but be able to remove it rapidly by myself when needed to load on a camper or whatever. I was thinking one of the tri-folding fabric ones. Lund and Extang each make one, best price I've seen so far delivered is about $353. The Extang is called the Tri-Fecta, I think, and it's represented as coming fully assembled, two front clamps, unfold, two rear clamps, it's done.
There's an awful lot of different companies selling them, and a surprising number of different models, too.
I have had several fiberglass covers. I now have a Truxedo Lo Pro and will never have anything else again. Just love it. Especially when I need to haul something and I just roll it up. Used to be a real pain taking off hard tops. Each to their own though, different needs/wants.
I have had the truxedo lo-pro for a year now. I also had a ford soft cover on my 2000 f-150 and it tore and didn't latch down right and i hated it. I love the truxedo and will never have anything else. They are a site sponsor but i got mine locally and the guy said they had a great warrenty. He said he just had a guy come in and tell him he ripped his cover with some tool, said he called truxedo and they sent him a new cover in a week. Love how it latches and it was around 400 installed.
I've had the truxedo lo-profile on my truck for over a year and love it. I use it to keep hard woods (for furniture) dry while transporting in the rain (pacific nw weather). It works great for hauling my fifth wheel, just roll it up. When I'm disconnected, I roll it out and keep gear in the bed out of site, out of mind.
I have a tri-fold Lund Genesis. Very easy to install, remove and fold up. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is not stretched real tight from side to side so there is a wrinkle. I think there is a lifetime warranty on it. I paid in the low $300's somewhere online.
I am a truxcedo LoPro man myself. Here is a pic of the Tan one I put on my KR 1.5 years ago.
Like the way it folds/rolls up and also locks while down. Quality grade material and installed myself, ordered from Realtruck.com FTE sponser. Lowest cover I could find.
I have had both the truxedo and the pace edwards (jackrabbit). The pace edwards
is a nicer more secure cover, but does cost about twice as much,I paid around$900 installed
The truxedo is just a vinly cover not very secure if you need that feature but does work nice to keep items dry. You should be able to purchase the truxedo for under $300.00, Just do a web searech and you can find plenty of people selling them.
It just comes down to personal preference, if i had to buy anothe rflat cover I would buy the Pace edwards roll top. I hope I was of some help.
I personally prefer my roll-n-lock mainly because it rolls and locks. When pulling my fifth wheel I will pull it out to the fifth wheel and keep at least some stuff covered if not dry. Then, I leave everything in the bed and lock both it and the tailgate. It's made out of metal so at least it will take more than a pocketknife to get into it.
The Truxedo Lo Profile and the Original both have a life-time warranty. They both have automatic tension control, which means the cover will automatically stay tight when the cover expands and contracts from the temperature changes. And the cover is very durable. Also, if you're the guy with the white truck, I'm sure you won't have any problem fitting the Truxedo covers on your truck. The liner shouldn't interfere with the cover.
I was looking at the Truxedo, Extang and Access. I ended up going with the Access Limited and I got mine delivered to my door for $373.00 from realtruck.com.
I did e-mail them with some questions about it and they answered them and offered to seel it for that price. I guess it pays to ask. It arrived at my door in perfect shape and I was able to install it in about an hour and a half.
So far it looks great, works perfectly, and the price was right. Very happy with it.
