I bought my first diesel truck and was very excited about it back in the middle of September. A 2004 King Ranch F250 Crew Cab 6.0 Powerstroke Turbo Diesel FX4. This truck has a 6" lift and a 5" exhaust nice oversized wheels, I couldn't ask for more. After 2 and half months of driving this "awesome" machine it decided to fail on me. Now I probably made a mistake by buying a 2004 with 112000 miles already on it but everyone I spoke to about the truck said, "For a diesel that engine is bearly being broken into." Now the first week of December the truck decided to stop working. It would crank over but would not stay on. A bunch of white smoke would come out of the exhaust. Now I was told it could be the cam position sensor so I replaced it. After that wasn't it I didn't want to put anymore hand into it so I took it to the dealership. They replaced the turbo, the turbo drain tube(valve), and the pcm. They said that the truck had a chip in it that I had no idea about so that's what caused the timing to go off and mess up those components. After the truck would not start and the exhaust still threw out white smoke they had to get an engineer out to see shat was causing the fuel to enter the exhaust. After a check the engineer found out that 3 of the 8 injectors were no good and that the other 5 are very bad so he suggested that they be replaced as well. Now after all that I really regret buying this truck and I wonder if anyone else has ever gone through a dilema like this. Plus if anyone is interested in helping me pay for the repairs please contact me. LOL
Jat, does the truck run now? and how much did you give for the truck? Could the tech's tell you why the chip messed things up? I understand you said it jumped time. I dont know anything about diesels but i've had turboed gas burners that jumped time and did'nt hurt the turbo. Are you to believe it jumped time after you bought the truck? Why i'm asking is you said you did'nt know aboutthe chip so you could'nt be tuning it after you bought it. So it seems to me the damage was done prior to you buying the truck. I kinda think you would beable to tell if a diesel is jumping time. I just have a hard time taking in that you bought a what seemed to be running great truck then just one morning 2 months later it wont start and a tuned pcm is blamed for jumping time and all the damage it caused. I would think that if it was on going you would have had a clue before it actually quite starting i.e maybe running alittle rough.
it is next to impossible for a 6.0 to jump time. it is all gears-direct drive. no chip, or tuner can cause the copper washer to dissapear. someone replaced that injector and did not torque it properly. there is only 2 ways the copper washer can dissapear, one is what i stated and the other is if the cup is damaged, but if it was a damged cup, then it would have shown up long before now.

I kinda hope we're on the same page. I just dont believe that you go to your truck and it doesnt start and its cause of a tuner you dont know about. I dont know how that effects the turbo. seems to me they could have just reflashed the pcm instead of puttting in a new one. I have'nt got my hands on anything for the diesels engines yet so its drive is foregn to me still. Jat said the tuner made it jump time i thought that was odd.
Sounds like to me something a buddy of mine went thru. He bought a camaro, got it right. It had problems the told him it was this. My buddy bought it thinking he did right fixed what the guy told him was wrong but naw that was'nt the problem. My buddy put another $2000 in the car.
Yea Team Ford is trying to run up this tab on me but from my understanding as well for a turbo to be crack it takes a lot. These people have been feeding me a bunch of ***** and I am trying to figure out how to catch them on their lie. The truck would idlle rough a little in the morning but I figured since it got cold a couple of days here it might have been theat the diesel was gelling up but once it started it ran like a champ. The other thing I noticed is that the average miles per gallon gauges started to show me less and less miles.
Did you buy it from"Team Ford"? I mean think about it. You bought a 3 year old truck that was modified. Do you know who modified it? Maybe the dealer is trying to run up the bill. Then again perhaps they are trying to figure out what the heck is up with a truck that was modified and run hard and sold early. It was modified right out of any warranty. Normally a dream truck is built to your specs and then you treat it like your baby or you break it because thats what you can afford to do, then sell it.
