That's probably my job ;) I figured it wasn't worth it, as the "big block" was added to attract newbies. The FT side of things, well, I should really pursue that.
Thanks for "owning up to it", KreWat ! :)
Sorry I called you a lazy bunch of stars. ;)
As to Wikipedia, there are some obvious screw ups with the Ford modular information, and some other stuff on there. There ARE mistakes in there. I don't use it as the be-all/end-all source for information. But it is interesting nonetheless ;)
Fix those problems danggit. :/
I don't know anything worth typing out really... otherwise I'd fix it myself.
Clearly assigning the terms Big and Small to engine forums is ok to help get each new generation of enthusiasts started. Then each individual Ford enthusiast must be open minded and accept the true and original Ford identification methods given to these engines. Anything else is basically slang, and worse, it is confusing.
If you are really a Ford enthusiast, then educate yourself in the ways of Ford and don't try and buck the system. Besides, there are way too many slang terms pouring into this website that breed enough confusion already. Let's not add more.
yeah i happen to own an original 45/70 marlin its a bad *** rifle if i do say so my self. hey thanks for understanding about the miss under standing again.
Only problem with a Marlin 45/70 is is doesn't hold enough ammo in the magazine. Browning or Winchester 1886 is the only way to fly. Nine rounds in the mag, + 1 in the spout.

What the hell are you shooting that one 405 grain LFN 45/70 won't deal with? There just isn't anything in these United States (including Alaska) that they won't deal with.
405 grain? Who's shooting something so light? Fill her full of 520 grain flat nosed gas checks (1500-1600 fps) and you're ready for the biggest, baddest bears you can find. My 410 gr FNGC's are my light, target loads. So you see Bear, you're not the only 45/70 owner here. I've got two. One Browning 1886 rifle, one Sharps single shot. I've put over three thousand rounds through the Browning since I bought it new in 92. All but the first twenty rounds have been handloads. Ain't kept track of the Sharps but it's had close to a thousand put thru it.

I'm old and had a badly broken right shoulder 12 years ago and have found thru expeirence that if the 405 won't get the job done then I must be in Africa. Oh yeah, I also own a Ruger #1 in 45/70 and it will shoot loads that will make you see the "Light" and causes the words "OH LORD!" roll off your lips.
dudes dont know if you realize but in Nevada Georgia which is where im originally from or any where in the USA if a marlin45/70 cant do the job than nothing but a BAR 7 mag can finish the job i would know i own both. I took a ten point 11 inch tine buck down with one shot from my marlin at just over 1000 yrd open sight droped one inch and hit him dead, didnt kill him but i found him lying down still breathing so i got my BAR and droped him again with one shot at five hundred yrd scope. come on whats up now thanks for all the support of the 45/70 owners out there marlin is thinking of discontinuing them so every one join up and lets see if they continue making them.

Where did you hear that Marlin was thinking of dropping the 45/70? It's one of the consistant sellers.
I've pushed the 520's up to 1700 fps in the Browning. That was plenty. I now use 4 bullets with set loads for each. I've gotten over the experimenting stage. 330 FN gets pushed by 58 grains of Winchester 748, 410's get 50 grains of the same powder, the 520's get either AA2015, AA2495 or IMR4895, in a 45 grain dose. Then I also cast and load the RCBS BPS 500 grain spitzer. All the others are cast by me. The Sharps sights are set to where it's dead on at 200 yds with the 500/520 and dead on at 300 with the 410's. I also had a Browning 1886 Carbine but the recoil was bad enough with the rifle, even more with 4" less barrel and 2 rounds missing vs the rifle. I miss the Carbine's butt plate though.
In addition to my 1895SS Marlin and the Ruger #1, I also have an original US Springfield Model 1873 "Trapdoor" built in 1889, then there is my custom Mauser 1871/84 converted from 11mmMauser to 45/70. And then the last one I still own is a Thompson Contender Super 14 pistol in 45/70. I load all my own and have 10 years. I also cast my own 405's and shoot nothng but cast in everything but the Number 1 when I load over 1700fps. But the #1 will drive a 405 out the muzzle at over 2100 fps and cast bullets just won't tolerate that speed. My powder of choice is H-4198.
hey guys sorry i havent gotten back to ya my oil needed to be changed and well lets just say who ever last changed it had no clue what they were doin. thread locker.... i mean come on people were do people get off doin stupid **** like that
bear 45/70 i heard they were going to drop it because of my fathers friends one of them works with marlin and thats what he said so i dont know but any way....
Some comments to your acertion that Marlin will deop the 45/70 follow.
"I was under the impression that the 45/70 out sold the 450 by almost 4 to 1. This does seem a bit far fetched."
"Well, that rumor should bump 45-70 sales nicely."
"Regarding the lower production numbers of the 444, when compared to the 45-70, Lets dispel the myth.........Size ain't everything!........the 45-70 sells more due to the fact more ammo houses load for it , and 45-70 is the "bore of choice" for the crowd that thinks that it takes a 500+ Gr. bullet to kill little whitetails.
I like 45-70's, I own two, ......................"
The concensus is it just will not happen, no one quits making their best seller.
