i do apologize for the miss understanding im sorry this is the first time i have had access to the internet. abreviations are confusing to me so i do apologize for the miss understanding. growing up in the back woods of south gerogia isnt the best place to learn how to speak city talk, bear45/70. just a question that screen name are you refering to the 45/70 cal. rifle used during... well since the begining of the usa
I was being as smart *** there at the end and forgot the smiley faces. No apology necessary. "45/70 Government is the only government I trust". Accepted as the first brass cased rifle cartridge the US Army ever used, 124 years ago. Still going strong today.
351W -- small block?
351M -- medium block?
352 -- big block?
332 is same block as 352 but smaller displacement than the 351W 'small block'
Small block / big block are not descriptive enough terms to know what engine family you are talking about and what parts will interchange. They are inferior terms used by an inferior company without enough imagination to be able to come up with more than 2 inferior engine families during the time frame for which those terms are applicable.

Did I ever tell you guys I once had a Model T. It came factory with a 176ci Flathead "half-block?" I sure miss that 'ol engine. She sure purred like a kitten. When she finally gave way, I ended up swapping it out with a RFH block.
We voted (remember?) and it was overwhelming that the "Big Block" part of the forum's description was to be removed.
It's been buggin me ever since that nothing was done. :/
Which lazy *******'s in charge of that? :/
It was also voted that FT and some numbers like 359, 361, 389, 391 etc were to be added too.
I've always called my 360 a "medium block" as seat of the pants description.

ps- that WikiPedia really kicks butt huh?
That's probably my job I figured it wasn't worth it, as the "big block" was added to attract newbies. The FT side of things, well, I should really pursue that.
As to Wikipedia, there are some obvious screw ups with the Ford modular information, and some other stuff on there. There ARE mistakes in there. I don't use it as the be-all/end-all source for information. But it is interesting nonetheless
HA! That's funny! It's amazing how you can get the original question answered in about 3 posts, but it ends up being 3 pages long. 1/2 page of answers to the original question, and 2-1/2 of personal preferences.
I remebe myu Dad bought a 1972 Ford pickup new with the 390. Boy id that thing have power. That truck would smoke the tires easily. This was the day before smog controls. That was a tough motor to. A neighbor has a 1972 250 4x4 with the original 390 in it a still running great. Built Ford Tough at its finest.
