Hey, I hope you all had a healthy and happy holiday season. I have a question about my X. I hear what sounds like a valve tap under heavy acceleration. Never realy heard it on the old truck but then again edverything about this truck is quieter. Im assuming that the 7.3's have hydraulic valve trains, so is there anything I can do to quiet them down? Sounds like just driverside is tappin, Should I be steppin up to synthetic oil? If so whats the fav type on here? I have all the records on this X from ford. Oil changed every 3000, this was a one owner vehicle and was owned by a woman and was her daily driver. 134k on the X now. Bought it with 131k for 18,000 mint interior and exterior, needed tires. Sound like a decent deal?
Many folks here run syn and love it but I do not. It should not be necessary and therefore would not likely be your cause. Are you sure it is a valve train noise and not a cackle or injector noise? What other truck did you have?
My signiture is not working, The info used to be there, My old truck was an early 99 f-350 CC Dually 7.3. Auto. I know about the diesel cackle, Its not that type of noise, Not sure about the injector noise, but it does sound like the tap, comes and goes at idle. The truck was at the dealer recently. see previous post. Does anyone know where I edit my signiture? it disappeared.
Well, if you had one before and now it is gone I cannot explain that except to say go back to the User CP on the blue bar right above the thread and click that, click edit signature and see if the info is there. If not, try to re-enter it.
Thanks Tenn, I tried that and believe it or not, there is no button that says edit signiture. Theres a bunch of other ones but not that one. Go figure. I know it was there originally because thats how i put my sig info in there.
i had a tapping noise once..thought it was lifters as well..the next few days it got louder...got under the truck while it was running to find the EBPS tube had a crack in it..
I will have to check out that tube. The tap comes and goes. I did check the label on the VC, Date of assembly was 11-01, I guess I have a motor with the weaker rods. Lucky me
I have a tapping noise that comes thru the gearshifter. It sounds as if someone is tapping on the shift lever with a small hammer. It mostly went away when I did the in tank mods, but is coming back. Louder in some gears than others, but always there. I figured it is the result of 150,000 miles of air in the fuel, hoping that I can get by without having to change injectors any time soon.
