I am having the tired 5.0 from my 88 F150 and getting a HO 5.0 with shorty headers installed. I bought a E303 cam to have installed on the motor before it goes it. The stock motor was 185hp and the HO motor is rated 225hp. Then with the cam and headers with the flowmaster exhaust I should pull alittle more HP. The truck has a 7" lift and 35's and is a 5spd. Will this cam work good?
I went through the search on here and it seems like some like and some dont like. One said it is not a good truck cam though it powers low-mid range. Which is what I am looking for with the tires. Once the motor is in and I see how it runs and feels I may go with gears but nothing to low. Its a pretty mild cam so I dont see where it will mess with the computer. If so what will be the problems and how would I fix it?
the only problem I can see is that the HO motor and obviously the cam fire on the 351 firing order and your trucks ECU doesn't. I'm not sure whether your computer is batch fire or sequential fire on the injectors either
I guess if I have problems I will have to spend alittle more money. Hopefully I dont. From what I read someone said it could have an idle problem like idling low but thats it. If thats all I am ok with that I like lower idles. I had my 99 Cobra idling at 500 rpms.
you will definitely have an idle problem. I'm having the same with mine. There's a piece you can get that you will be able to adjust the air going into the throttle body which will help out your idle. I can get you the part# if you're interested. It worked wonders for mine
I'll pm you the part number tomorrow when I get home. The problem with the idle is that it wouldn't remain steady. It would wander about 500rpm and then under load my truck would want to stall. The part cost me $90 CAN. You can get the part through STEEDA but they actually charge more than the dealership. Or at least to get it here to Canada it would have cost me more
Was the idle problem the only thing you had wrong? So with this Idle Bypass Valve you can adjust the idle really easy and have no problem anymore. So you could set the idle low and not have to worry about the stalling issues you had before?

no with mine it's turned out to be a whole lot of things. See my 96 is the first year of OBD2 and the only year the F150 had OBD2 and a 5.0. So it turns out that everything is a 1 year only part for it. Unfortunately you can't mix and match OBD1 and OBD2 plugs and connectors
