Where's the Gas Station?

Hey everybody!
Can any of you help me with this problem? My 66 with a 240 and a 1bbl carb drinks gas like a man dyeing of thirst. I swear the thing uses gas sitting in the driveway and the keys in my pocket. What can I do to help it out? Also, does anyone know what the gearing is on the rear-end?

Thanks a lot
Robbie

Well if you post the info on the door data plate then someone might be able to tell what the gearing is...

Well; can't totally explain your lack of fuel economy beyond that in 66 era; fuel economy wasn't and dealer option or FOMOCO consideration. I got about 200 miles per tank in my 66 3spd 240 cid lwb, with a 3:00 axle ratio. Sounds like yours is doing less.
Here's your vin data
F10 = F100
A= 66 model 240 cid
874677= built 06/66
Color F= Light blue
Body 281?? = Should be either 81A (Standard cab) or 81B (Custom cab)
Trans C= 3 spd light duty manual
Axle 09= 3:70
You got higher towing gear ratio and your carb could be a issue, not that its a 1bbl but probably time for rebuilt maybe. Others have improve their fuel mileage by aftermarket products like intake, carb, header & exhuast. Check out the engine site reference to 300's & 240's. As I stated their wheren't any hybird's back then . sorry.

Thanks for the help Customcab.
As for the body it is a Standard cab but I swear the door tag actually has 281 under Body. Go figure!

The 2 in front of the 81 indicates the interior trim code.
In this case, it will be medium blue crush vinyl, and medium blue ladder pattern vinyl.
Often, the "A" or the "B" after the body code is not listed; most often the "A" is not there.
