Look in the 67-72 forum. I have the same problem with my 72 Ranger XLT. Still looking for a fix. Problem is far too common, somebody must have found a way to fix this...appears most people have just been living with it. Keep an eye on the thread in the 67-72 forum and I will keep an eye on this thread as well. Will let you know if anybody comes up with something.

gas guage

I had the same problem with the gas gauge reading 1/2 and somehow still running out of gas. The problem was in the Fuel Sending Unit. I took out the Sending unit and opened up where the spring is for the float to work. I found out it had a break in the metal spring which caused it to stick and stop at half tank. It was around $100 to buy a new one (bronco graveyard). I had another Fuel Sending unit sitting around which was also bad, but the spring area was good so I used both Units to make one good one. So most likely your problem is with the spring sticking. Hope this helps

Sounds like a bad sender or a broken wire/ loose connection (check the easy things first). Like Mil1ion said, lots of past posts on how to test everything and repair it correctly. If you do repair it, take care to have a good clean ground and connections. Solder all you splices and us dielectric grease on all connections. It's no fun to work under there, so do it right the first time...
