I have seen this listed on this board and was wondering exactly what it was and what kind of readings to look for. I looked at the auto enginuity site and I have got a new laptop that would be great for it. Is the software worth the 379 for the ford package?
well the package is worth if you normally pay somebody else $75 a shot to scan your truck for codes. after about 5 times of getting your truck scanned you could pay for itself.
Yes the autoenginuity will do cylinder contribution tests. what it is a test the determines which cylinder is not performing up to the rest of them. useful for find which cylinder is missing or poor on performance ie bad injector wiring, bad injector, bend push rods, low compression. It won't tell you what the problem is but it will narrow it down to which cylinder.
Thanks.....i take it by your response that it will show some data to compare the cylinders against each other. I didnt want it if it just show which cylinder was dead....i wanted data.
it won't show data for dead cylinder. no scanner do that. you can see all engine data but there really isn't any data to be shown for a dead cylinder. It can't measure compression or tell you if it getting fuel. Here what you can do though. say you have a miss. cylinder contribution tells you #5 is down you also have a code for #5 injector. You could safely assume that #5 injector has a wiring issue or a dead injector.
from what I read I would say that the AE is better than the snapon scanner my dads shop has but it runs $3k. but the snapon does have diagnostic info with where as the AE doesn't. Also if you are into diagnostic on multiple brand vehicles, ford, gm, dodge, honda.... you have to buy the other manufacture bundles. but This said I have access to the snapon scanner 24/7 but AE is on my list to buy especially since I am in process of mounting my laptop for A/V, Navigation and when I get AE diagnostic and data logging!
You can look at "Cylinder Rotaional Change %" in live data that will show you a cylinder that is not contributing as much as the rest but it wont tell you the cause ie. Compression, injector, wiring, ect.
Greg bob I did not know that! Glad to hear somebody that has used both. Our shop has Snapon solus. it good but what I have heard has been confirmed by you. AE is better. Only problem is that we work on every vehicle on the road. We still need a scanner with full vehicle coverage including obd1. Does AE do body control and abs stuff?
I thought it was good stuff before! now I bet my dad buy the whole she bang by the end of the year after the Honda package is availible.
thanks guys
and thanks Alan just got the e-mail! also logged in and it worked thanks!
