Several years ago I read a Motor Trend article about somecustomizations on the Ford 7.3L PSD which included the use of an electric cooling fan to replace the stock motor-driven one. However, in the several months I've been here at FTE, I've never seen a reference to this application.
Has anyone here gone this route, or know of someone who has? If not, why? If so, what kinds of results have been observed/documented? Any troubles?
I think the "fine print" in your flex-a-lite URL tells the story about e-fans:
Electric fans are not recommended for primary diesel engine cooling when the combined gross vehicle weight (CGVW) exceeds 18,000 pounds (truck, trailer and load)
I can follow the rationale there. I'll consider that a closed chapter in the back of my mind, only to be opened if I ever want to pursue a racing career - HA!
