I keep getting this code on my 1997 Expy 4.6l 4WD, Emmission Control System Vent Circuit Malfunction. Any idea as to what I need to do to fix this or what causes the code. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
P0446 Evap Emission Control System Vent Malfunction
Your gonna need to check the components of the EVAP system. This could be a bad gas cap (not sealing properly), the vent line on the fill neck is blocked, vent at the canister is blocked, etc.
I'll check the gas cap, and the canister you are referring to is behind the driver side rear wheel. I'll look into them. Thanks for the help. I'll let you know what I come up with. I live in Colorado so the canister vent could be blocked with snow. Thanks again.
I'll throw in the fact that if the gas cap is loose, and you verify that it was, don't expect the light to go out the second you tighten the cap and start driving. It will take several drive cycles to reset.
Better yet, if you pulled the code, and have still have access to the machine, reset it and drive it. If if doesn't recode, no sense in chasing a problem that isn't there.
A P0446 code won't be caused by a loose/non-sealing fuel cap anyway. For a 97, that condition would cause a P0442 or P0455.
This is one of those times that you really need to follow the diagnostic procedure from the service manual to keep from wasting a lot of time and money.
