Exclamation 99 Expedition Won't Start

Hello,
I have a 99 Expedition 5.4L, A4WD, 120,000 miles. I can not get it to start. It turns over, seems to start for a brief second, then turns off. I have tried different keys and the remote starter. I replaced the battery (it died during the process), and checked the fuel shutoff switch (I couldn't get it to do anything, so I guess that it would be popped up if it needed to be reset). I can hear the fuel pump prime, but I just don't think there is any fuel going to the engine. I looked for the test port on the injection lines, but couldn't find it. I also (much to my dislike) banged on the gas tank while my son tried to start the truck. Right now the truck is stuck at my wife's work and I am stumped.

Any thoughts? Fuel pump? Filter? I tried to take the filter of from the engine side, but I think I chickened out due to the thought of gas spewing out all over me. Oh, and I was lying on an ice patch.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Jim

you say it seems to start. do you mean it starts and then stalls (ie the rpms drop too low). can you keep her going by revving the rpms?

I didn't try that, but my wife said that worked before. I am going to go try. I will repost in 40 mins.
Thanks

if that works i'd look at the IAC (idle air control) valve first. it's an easy fix; you can pull it out and clean it, or just replace it.

Sorry for the delay. Looks like the site went down. I started it and hit the gas. The truck would stay running as long as I had my foot on it. I slowly let off the gas and it stalled. Would you happen to know where the IAC is and what it looks like?

go to a parts site like rockauto and look at a picture of it. If your engine has the big black cover over it like mine, that might be hiding it a little bit.

I found the part, but I don't think I can get it off and on by myself. It is at the back of the intake manifold, under the lip of the firewall, surrounded by air conditioning and water hoses, and the bolts point towards the cab. NICE!

I am going to try and clean my throttle plate first, and then let my neighbor at it. I saw on Rockauto that there was a part called the Air by-pass valve that looked identical to this except the IAC has a hole in the body. Any thoughts here?

I just drove it home by two-footing it. Once I got it into the driveway, I took my foot off the gas and the idle dropped real low, but it stayed running. I took off the air intake and when I blew into it, the truck stalled.

I am going to try and clean the throttle plate now.
Thanks

Cleaned the throttle plate real well, sprayed all the way up and into the IAC, fierd up the truck, and it has been fine so far.

Thank you all for you help. What a great forum.
