what year powerstroke, what year v10, what size truck, what do the trucks weigh?? rear axle ratio? tire size?? lift? what bully dog or banks kit? manual or auto tranny? out run in what way? we need info
i'll tell ya what i know.
my bud: 01' F-250 7.3 auto RC LB 4x4 3.73's
mods: 4" straight pipe from turbo out. banks: trans command, 100hp
chip and compressor wheel. AFE air box.
my truck: 01" F-250 6.8 V-10, auto SC, LB, 4x4 3,73's
mods: banks: headers, air intake, trans command.
off the line i can get the jump. once that turbo spools up, he'll pass me till my nose is at his front door, and i can hold that position till about 75mph, when we let off.
we often tow together to jeep rides. on the road and hills both our trucks will run faster than you need to. we typicilly run 80-85mph, no problem. in the contest of "who's got the biggest *******", it's all about preference, one is just long and the other fat.
Thanks guys, although just a theoretical question, (my V-10 : '99, AEM intake, 3.73, sc short box. 265's, the rest oem.) looks like a modified diesel still can't beat a V-10 by even a length!
I wouldn't believe that. My old F450 7.3 10000# tow truck used to beat up on mustang GT 5 speeds to about 50. That truck would lay 4 60' dark black patches if you left with boost. 2.1 60' 15.5 1/4 mile @ 10,000 pounds. It had stacked chips, intake & exhaust only. Never seen a stock v10 or even a stock duramax pickup @ 4000# less keep up. It was fun. Lloyd
F-450's typically have 4.88 gears. i bet it would haul the mail to 50 mph and then the bottom end gets twisted within an inch of it's life trying to go 80 mph. F-550's are even worse, but they will tow a train....
I told a little story on here about a light to light matchup w/ a PSD about 2 weeks ago. I stayed ahead of him each time we left the light but he was right there the whole time. I ran into him again 2 days ago and found out he's got a manual trans. His truck is an 05 6.0L, manual trans, 3.73's. Mine is an 04 V10, auto trans, 4.30 gears. Both are bone stock as far as the powertrains are concerned. He was a little bent out of shape when we played around but he had gotten over it by the time we ran into each other again. We both agreed that due to the gearing difference and his manual box is the reason I stayed in front of him. If we had more room, we both agreed that he MIGHT have passed me. All in good fun.....
Well I dont know what the jerk had in his but I pulled out on the road last week turning left and this *&^^*(_*& in a ford diesel ran out of a parking lot where he was acting up and ran a stop sign. I was in the right and he should have stopped. I had 2 choices mash the gas and get out of his way so he wouldnt hit me or stop in the cross traffic lanes of traffic. So ....I...... mashed on it.(first time I have stood on it) WOW I left him in the dust, I looked in the rear view and he had black smoke rolling and couldnt catch up. I turned off bout a mile down the road and turned off to go get my kids from school. This moron pulls up beside me, mouthing some crap, I held up my issued walkie talkie and ask if he wanted the police to settle this. He "tried" to spin his wheeles but all he did was crap black smoke.
IMO that $5000.00 option of diesel with the extra cost of fuel and so little mpg gain, and the added cost of maintaning a diesel. I just think very few out there save any money with their diesels.
